Ricardo

Dear CAA Member/Friend:

Ricardo is a 16-year-old high school student whose family came to Costa Rica from Columbia for safety reasons several years ago. He and his sister live with their grandmother who is ill and not able to work and, because they are not citizens, they are not eligible for government assistance. As a result, they constantly struggle to afford even basic necessities like food and shelter, so the uniform, shoes, and school supplies required for Ricardo to take advantage of Costa Rica’s free public education are a huge issue. He could have quit school to earn money to support his family, but because he is a bright and motivated student, he was referred to CAA’s Education Scholarship program and was accepted.

By maintaining a high grade-point average in school, Ricardo receives vouchers from CAA that are redeemable at participating local retailers for the uniform and supplies he needs for school. In addition, Ricardo’s family receives vouchers from CAA for food assistance. Ricardo is doing well in his studies and looks forward to continuing his education beyond high school. With your help, students like Ricardo can gain an education that will help them break the cycle of poverty and realize a brighter future.

Please consider giving generously to CAA’s Education Scholarship Program on Giving Tuesday, November 29. On that day, go to globalgiving.org/18714 to complete your donation.
