County Road Association highlights Chippewa County Road Commission member

LANSING, MI – Throughout Michigan, there are hundreds of dedicated county road agency professionals who work hard every day to make our local road systems safe and efficient. It's not often, though, that we get to learn more about who they are. Look no further than the latest issue of Crossroads, the County Road Association's quarterly flagship publication, to meet Stephanie Boileau, PE, county highway engineer at the Chippewa County Road Commission (CCRC) in Sault Ste. Marie.

A native of Detroit, Boileau is driven by her passion for civil engineering, improving the communities she serves, and keeping workers safe on the job. She relocated to rural Chippewa County to change up her life and realize her dreams by working for a road commission.

"I think a lot of engineers go into civil engineering because they want to improve their communities," said Boileau. "For me, joining the road commission was a really good opportunity to do that."

Outside of work, Boileau enjoys spending time with her animals and working on her sprawling 160-acre farm – now home to goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and hopefully one day, cattle.

The 83 members of the County Road Association of Michigan represent the unified voice for a safe and efficient county transportation infrastructure system in Michigan, including appropriate stewardship of the public’s right-of-way in rural and urban Michigan. Collectively, Michigan’s county road agencies manage 75% of all roads in the state, including 90,000 miles of roads and 5,700 bridges. County road agencies also maintain the state’s highway system in 63 counties. Michigan has the nation’s fourth-largest local road system.
