CTV W5: Restrained - a documentary
|
|
Inclusion BC’s work on ending the use of physical restraint and seclusion in schools, Stop Hurting Kids, was featured on October 29th in the documentary Restrained by CTV W5.
The documentary shows that this is a national problem where children are being physically and emotionally harmed and their rights violated.
With the national attention on this issue, we remain committed to our advocacy to end these practices in BC and bring more accountability from schools, schools districts, and the Ministry of Education.
Our latest call to the Ministry of Education is to do a full review on the content and implementation of the Provincial Guidelines on the Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion in every school district. The lack of reporting mechanisms and the differences across school districts generate a vacuum of information at the local and provincial levels about the use of these practices. We need regulatory oversight, clear standards and supports, and training for educators and all staff.
