As communicated at previous CCG meetings, we have been expecting an announcement from the NSW Government (EnergyCo) about the Strategic Benefits Payments Scheme for private landowners. The NSW Government has today announced this scheme, which acknowledges the vital role of landowners in securing energy for NSW, and the impact upon them.
We have been advocating for these additional payments for a year now, as part of our commitment to landowners, and are thrilled to see it announced today. This is just one of a range of initiatives Transgrid has been working on with EnergyCo to support landowners and recognise the role that private landowners play in supporting New South Wales’ transition to renewable energy.
This payment is in addition to any compensation paid under the Just Terms Compensation Act 1991, and will apply to landowners hosting transmission lines for the HumeLink project on their private property.
Under the scheme, private landowners hosting new high voltage transmission projects critical to the energy transformation and future of the electricity grid will be paid a set rate of $200,000 per kilometre of transmission hosted, paid out in annual instalments over 20 years, linked to the Consumer Price Index.
In other words, it is a payment of $10,000 per kilometre of transmission line across privately-owned land, paid annually over a period of 20 years and adjusted for inflation based on the Consumer Price Index.
You can find more information about the scheme on EnergyCo’s website and the HumeLink website We are contacting affected landowners and have developed a number of Frequently Asked Questions to help them understand how the scheme affects them.
