Hello my friends, and welcome to our Fall 2022 Newsletter!

Once again, I’m delighted to be sharing with you the exciting projects that are on the horizon for the start of this season.  This past summer I was lucky to debut Elvira in I PURITANI and that was a big success in Napoli.

Now I’m gearing up for another exciting role debut, but this time, it’s not bel canto! Instead I’m preparing to perform my 5th Handel title: ALCINA at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.  We open November the 8th in London.   After that, I head to New York City to return to the Metropolitan Opera in their new production of RIGOLETTO.  Gilda is one of my absolute favorite roles, and it’s always a pleasure to reprise it, and an honor to be back at the Met.  We open December 8th.

On the recording front, there’s a lot to be excited about as well!  Last year, I sang the title role of Handel’s THEODORA in concert with Il Pomo D’oro, and after a series of live concerts, we made a beautiful recording that is now available on Warner Classics-Erato, and online everywhere!  I’m so grateful also for the incredibly positive response to my French Bel Canto album, which just came out as well, on Pentatone.

Thank you to everyone who purchased a copy and is enjoying it!  It was a project that I had been dreaming about for years and I’m so glad that we could make that dream a reality.

Rossini & Donizetti - French Bel Canto Arias

Announcement

I can't thank everyone enough for the kind and incredible reviews of our new album with the Dresdner Philharmonie and Corrado Rovaris conducting. This album was a culmination of many years of planning and I am so happy that we were able to put something together that is really special. I am overwhelmed with the responses to the album! Read some of the reviews below:

With her clear and bright timbre and distinctive but well controlled vibrato, she sings with taste, color and marked musicality. The singing line is very accurate in the legate and the fluid coloratura, precise and not aspirated, the trills close to almost becoming one with the vibrato. Oropesa controls his instrument well and sings effortlessly. The central register then acquired dark hues that allow it to master a good extension and a good color palette. ~ Connessi all'Opera

On her new aria CD "French bel canto Arias" Lisette Oropesa has taken on operas in French by the composers Gioacchino Rossini and Gaetano Donizetti. A brilliant idea, because the arias of Pamyra from "Le siège de Corinthe", Mathilde from "Guillaume Tell" (which she also plans to sing on stage) or the Comtesse from "Le Comte Ory" are not only rarities, but ideally suited to the voice type and maturity of the singer, who seems to have reached the zenith of her potential. ~ Online Merker

Reviews

Grandioser Start ins Salzburger Festspielfinale

Aug. 26, 2022

For the American soprano Lisette Oropesa, her radiant voice and her embodiment of Lucia, superlatives hardly express what she has achieved vocally and mimetically with rarely heard virtuosity.

Qui la voce sua soave

Sept. 9, 2022

Lisette Oropesa in her absolute debut in Elvira belliniana fully repays the wait to listen to her - let's add, finally! - at the San Carlo Theater. Since the duet between Elvira and Giorgio "Sai come arde in petto mio" ; miss Oropesa stands out for her precision, technical expertise, beautiful color, perfect vocal projection and intensity; dramaticisim

Bellini's last monument to bel canto: I puritani in concert in Naples

Sept. 12, 2022

“Qui la voce sua soave” was delivered with delicacy and an emotional charge of dramatic sense. In “Son vergin vezzosa”, Oropesa appeared in a stunning vocal form, with a sparkling sound and a precise staccato, with a charming tone across her whole range. She seemed at ease and confirmed herself as one of the best sopranos currently on the circuit.

Reflections

Fall always brings me back to reality, it seems.  This year the summer felt like it started really early and lasted longer than usual to me, with such warm weather going as far back as May!  I am always happy to have the return of the crisp temperatures and bright colors.

I’m also really excited to return to the Met this December.  My last performance there was just before the pandemic forced every theatre to shut down, back in March of 2020.  I haven't sung in the States since then.  I’m so grateful for having gotten through these past 2 and a half years safely and in good health.

This period has made me realize how much I took small things for granted.  Now that we are treading back towards normal circumstances, I have a newfound appreciation for things like gatherings with friends, going out to restaurants, and of course, theatres...a gratitude that I never felt so strongly before.

This work means the world to me, and I am blessed to be able to continue to make music and perform every day.
