Mentor a Student This Year

Mentor a Student This Year

Please consider the possibility of serving as a mentor to a UCF student or recent graduate in the STC Florida chapter’s 2022-2023 mentoring program. Having been on both sides, I can attest that mentoring offers meaningful benefits to both mentor and the mentee in terms of both professional growth and personal satisfaction.

If you would like to serve as a mentor this year, please submit the mentor application form. It is simple and straightforward and requires just a few minutes of your time. Also, we welcome mentors from beyond Florida and you do not have to be a current STC member. If you would like to step up, please complete the form by November 7.

How to Be a Mentor

If you have not mentored before but are interested in giving your time and experience to help a student enter our profession, we want you and we need you! Please join me this Thursday, November 3, at 7:00pm ET for my presentation on How to Be a Mentor

I will be sharing my experience mentoring, the value to professionals and students, and answering any questions you may have. If you have been on the fence about stepping up to be a mentor, I encourage you to join for this meeting!

Benefits

I have been blessed to mentor multiple talented students, and I have learned so much from them as well. Our profession is driven by cooperation and collaboration, and this program provides an opportunity for experienced professionals to foster those skills in a student. Here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Gain personal satisfaction from helping others discover their potential
  • Enhance coaching, feedback, and leadership skills
  • Gain exposure to new perspectives from the mentee
  • Expand professional networks

About the STC Florida Mentoring Program

Founded in 2003, our chapter’s highly successful, pacesetting mentoring program pairs STC Florida Chapter members with UCF technical communication students and other students with an interest in our profession based on the students’ goals and the professionals’ areas of expertise. Historically, our mentees have had outstanding results in job placement upon graduation. Many have remained active STC volunteers and have gone on to leadership positions.
