Halloween Night Ride

After a lot of 'please don't rain' dances, we were blessed with the perfect evening for our Halloween ride.

Our ride started from the Circus, up a few hills and it was totally dark by the time we hit Johhny se Bos.  Awesome 6km of single track through the forest and then back to the Circus.

The Halloween cycling outfits were fantastic and I am sure the adults had more fun dressing up than the kids!

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this evening such fun and an even bigger thank you to our sponsors who supplied the prizes.

These are our lucky prize winners

Ride The Karoo - 3 Day Stage Race - 23-25 September 2022
By Tania Bonner

This adventure started all by a “Do you want to join for a ride in the Karoo” asked by Graham and Brett (unfortunately Brett did not join - Wedding bells for his daughter that weekend).

So it began, check the entry costs, make the plans, arrange Transport, and plan training rides. Get enough riders to join this adventure. True enough the word spread and we got 15 keen riders to join this adventure.

From January to September the entries were paid, transport arranged (Destiny Tours - Tommy), the training done and all riders were ready.

Friday 23
Time to leave bright and early for our trip to Dwarsvlei Farm for 3 days of riding.
We had arrived at our destination Friday afternoon to awesome hot weather, off we all went to get our registration out the way, find our Tents for the weekend, some of us slept in the Glamping Tents and others had got themselves some nice digs in the Stables. All made ourselves at home and got sorted to start the night ride.

Ride the Karoo – 23 to 25/09/2022
By Graham Bell

This all started in January when Brett and I decided to start a group to go Ride the Karoo but unfortunately my mate Brett could not make it. I was warned that organizing an event is not easy {thanks big man Mark S} but I persevered.

The day finally arrived, and we were on our way for this adventure. This 3-day stage race was my first race and it will never be forgotten. Arriving at Dwaarsvlei farm just outside Middleburg we entered the parking area and proceeded to the registration, where you automatically start talking to random people who become friends by the end of the weekend.

Weekend Ride Schedule

  • We love having 'newbies' joining the Beginners Group, but before you do, you must be able to ride at least 30km and/or ride 2 laps of Rietvlei.
  • Please check the average speed below and slot into the group relevant to your fitness level.
  • Routes may be changed on the day, subject to numbers and ride captains.
Pen-Re weekday rides - Tuesdays - Wednesdays - Thursdays (subject to numbers)
We have a Pen-Re group, initially for Pensioners and Retirees, but you do not have to be either of these to join our rides.  All you need is a free morning with no time constraints and a sense of humour.  Whoever keeps on looking at their watch pays for coffee!  Rides start from Rietvlei and are anything between 40km to 60km at an average speed of 18kph.  Bring $$$ for coffee afterwards.  Rides are however subject to numbers so we do have a separate WhatsApp group to confirm rides.
