Confirmation 2022

Out of all the many things we do and programs we offer in Student Ministry, it is our belief that there are few more important than Confirmation. Not only does it help our students get plugged in to the life of the church and establish relationships, but it is also a critical cornerstone of their faith journey. It is a time when students learn about the Christian faith and why we believe what we believe. Most importantly, it is a time for students to encounter God for themselves and make their own decision to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

For many, Confirmation is the beginning of a process of “owning” their faith. For others, it is just a continuation of a faith journey that they have been travelling for some time because their parents have made it a priority for their family. Whichever is the case, we are excited that 39 students made that journey with us over the past 12 weeks.

In the United Methodist Church, Confirmation is seen as an opportunity to respond to the grace of God available to us, as acknowledged in baptism, and to promise to live as a person of faith. “What God offers us must be accepted in repentance and faith,” as our Baptismal Liturgy states. “Confirmation and reaffirmation are our responses of commitment, profession of faith, and rededication.” Confirmation is not a sacrament in The United Methodist Church, but it is an important step in our spiritual journeys.

At Roswell UMC, Confirmation has been an important tradition in the lives of young people for decades. Many of you can even remember your Confirmation process either at Roswell UMC or a different church. Hopefully, it was a meaningful experience for you and helped you understand your faith and experience the importance of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

As we wrap up our Confirmation process this Sunday morning, we would like to take a moment to thank our volunteers. Over 30 high school students and adult mentors led this year's group for the last 12 weeks. We could not do this amazing program without them. We would also like to invite you to a service of celebration as six of these Confirmands and three of their siblings will be baptized during the 9 a.m. worship service. Then, come join us at 11:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary as these 39 students make a public profession of faith and join our church family. I invite you to welcome these students, not only into the church family as members, but also into the family of God.
