RFP Vendor Presentations for Audience Response Solutions for Teaching

Some instructors use an audience response tool for in-class activities such as polls, quizzes, clarifying questions and class feedback. As part of an ongoing procurement process for Audience Response Solutions at the University of Toronto, the University is hosting demonstrations by prospective suppliers between November 3–8, 2022. Registration is required and each vendor will host their presentation twice. As with most vendor demonstrations, the sessions will not be recorded. Presidential Advisory Committee on Principles to Guide Recognition and Commemoration

In June 2022, President Gertler formed the Presidential Advisory Committee on Principles to Guide Recognition and Commemoration. The committee has been tasked with formulating a set of principles to help guide decisions on commemoration and naming, including the conditions under which the names of historical figures should no longer be associated with the University’s buildings, programs, or other elements of the physical and academic landscape. U of T community members are invited to share feedback with the committee.

Community Consultations on U of T’s Draft Institutional Research Data Management Strategy

The University of Toronto has co-developed a draft Institutional Research Data Management (RDM) Strategy, a requirement of the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy. All U of T appointed faculty, librarians, staff and students are invited to help shape the University of Toronto’s Institutional Research Data Management Strategy and future directions for support by providing input on the draft strategy. Call for Proposals: Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowships

The University of Toronto is pleased to announce the launch of the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship, a program of Schmidt Futures, which brings together the brightest minds who have completed a PhD in the natural sciences or engineering and who aim to pursue a research project that includes the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to their domain. Applicants must demonstrate clear expertise and promise within their field of study. Experience with AI is not a requirement, but applicants must have a desire to learn new AI methodologies that stand to accelerate discoveries in their domain. Value: $85,000 CDN/year, plus benefits. Computational & Quantitative Social Science Grant

The social sciences are undergoing a data sciences revolution. These developments present exciting opportunities as well as new challenges for social scientists. The purpose of the Data Sciences Institute's Computational & Quantitative Social Science Grant is to capitalize on these changes by providing seed funding to cutting-edge, high-impact research in computational and/or quantitative social science.

Critical Investigation of Data Science Grant

Data science has tremendous potential to inspire positive outcomes in the world, however, there are concerns about the ethical deployment of data science techniques and the ways that the effects of data science may reify inequities and biases. The Data Sciences Institute’s Critical Investigation of Data Science (CIDS) Grant is designed to provide seed funding for scholars to engage in critical investigations of data science.

Call for Proposals: Black Research Network Ignite Grant

The Black Research Network’s Ignite Grant provides annual, small-scale research funding to support Black faculty, librarians and postdoctoral scholars working broadly in any disciplinary category at the University of Toronto. The grants will offer awards of $5,000–$10,000 towards research training, dissemination and support.
