Warmth is Worth Sharing

Starting Wednesday at Community Life Church in Monmouth

We are excited to start our 5th season of the Polk County Warming Centers and continue the mission of providing a safe, warm, and hospitable place to sleep for some of our most vulnerable neighbors on our coldest nights. The season runs November 1 through March 31 and will be open at our rotating site in Dallas, Independence, or Monmouth as well as the Falls City Community Center when the overnight low temperature is forecast to be 32F or below. Similar to what we did last year, the center will also open at our rotating site three nights per week (Thursday/Friday/Saturday) regardless of weather conditions. Please help us spread the word!

An updated list of donation needs and volunteer information is available here: https://polkwarming.weebly.com/get-involved.html.

  • Intake is 7-9 p.m. For the safety and courtesy of all guests, please check in during this time if possible. After hours or to arrange transportation, please call 503-949-4987.
  • The warming center operates from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Transportation can be arranged within rural Polk County if needed. The Cherriots bus system is providing free rides to and from the Warming Centers when they are operating, Mondays-Saturdays.
  • Families and pets welcome.
If you are at all interested in volunteering or being part of our pool of overnight hosts, please plan to join one of these trainings. We are thankful to be able to provide stipends again this year to our trained overnight hosts (two each night) and are continually looking to expand our team!
Showers facilities are available and open to the public at Community Life Church in Monmouth! In addition to taking a shower, we want to help connect community members to other resources, and folks can stay for awhile to get out of the weather, charge devices, and get a snack. Appointments are required and can be made at this link, or by calling the Warming Centers number: 503-949-4987.
Huge shout out to the Cherriots bus system who is providing free transportation for our Warming Center guests to get to and from the center on the nights we're open: https://www.cherriots.org/news/cherriots-supports-warming-shelter-efforts/. Thank you for your gracious support!
If you'd like to volunteer as a driver on Sundays or holidays (when Cherriots buses aren't in service), we'd love to have you as part of the team! Please fill out a contact form or simply reply to this email if you're interested.
Special thanks to Ben Cooper and Rylan Headley! We now have shelving and a storage cabinet that will really help our trailer stay organized this Winter. This trailer houses all of our mattresses, bedding, cleaning supplies, and other gear that's parked at our host facility and ready to move every two weeks. It's basically a warming center in a box!
