Monthly Art Exhibit Spotlight
Watercolors by Samantha Wheelock
Stop by Freeport Community Library’s adult reading room during the month of November for some lovely watercolors by Freeporter Samantha Wheelock.
Samantha started her watercolor artwork as a way to be creative and to get out of the house with two very young children in quick, one-night art classes. She enjoyed watercolor so much she started taking a class and has been painting now for over 5 years. Samantha loves color and feels like painting is a fun way to decompress in a stressful life. Watercolor is unpredictable and, being a person who likes structure and planning, it takes her out of her comfort zone. Going to class during COVID, wearing a mask, and working in a garage with doors open really helped her when she had kids at home 24/7. Now each morning her kids are excited to see the progress she has made on her paintings after each class. Samantha continues to stretch her skills with new elements, painting pictures with unrealistic colors, trying mixed media with watercolor and pen, and has recently done some portrait work. She loves coming to the library and enjoying everyone's artwork and is very excited to now be on display with her own exhibit. Per the artist: "I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy bringing it to you!"
"Ladies of a Certain Age" Book Club
The "Ladies of a Certain Age" book club are meeting again at the library and are open to new members (and, despite their name, are open to all!). They meet on the third Wednesday of every month from 10:00AM - 11:30AM and enjoy a variety of genres. In addition to discussing the book, they often spend time tying their reading to current events if applicable. Sometimes the conversation is too good, and they will continue a discussion over lunch at a local restaurant. Their November read will be Christina Baker Kline's Orphan Train; some anticipated upcoming books are Remarkably Bright Creatures and Night of the Living Rez.
Troubleshoot your technology problems with Andrew and Meghan! Join them in the Bartol Room and be sure to bring any and all passwords, as well as the device itself (if mobile). No appointments are necessary; if there is a line, questions will be limited to 10 minutes per person (you can sign up again and wait for another turn if you still need help). Note: we cannot fix your electronics. These events are free and open to the public. We occasionally need to cancel individual sessions, so please see our Calendar of Events or call ahead to check for cancellations!

Museum Passes
Please note: several museums and parks have closed for the season. Maine Wildlife Park closes 11/11. The Children's Museum, Portland Museum of Art, and the Maine State Park Pass (provided in-person on a first come, first served basis) are all still available.
The Friends of Freeport Community Library and the Freeport Conservation Trust generously donate several family museum and park passes each year to FCL patrons. All passes are good for either free or reduced admission.
It’s easy to reserve your pass! Reservations can be made online or by phone. Passes should be picked up no sooner than a week in advance. When you stop by the library to pick up the pass, make sure to bring your library card. Passes can only be issued to card holders in good standing; please be aware that courtesy Teacher and Student cards are not eligible to use the passes. We are only able to issue one pass a day for each attraction so if your plans change let us know so that the pass may be used by others. Please give us a call at 865-3307 for more information.
