We love learning all about new amazing spices, their benefits, and how we can add them to our products and dishes...

Most of you know spices such as turmeric, ginger, anis, clove, or cinnamon, but we bet you didn't know these 5 facts about the history of spices:

1. While the first spices date back to 3000 BC in ancient Sumeria (which is now southern Iraq), it was the Egyptians who started to cultivate and harvest spices on a large scale
2. During the Middle Ages, pepper was often used as currency since it was so valuable
3. The first recorded use of ginger as a spice was in China in the 3rd century BC
4. Marco Polo brought spices from Asia to Europe in the 13th century 
5. The ancient Greeks used cinnamon to flavor their wine

5 Health Benefits of Turmeric...

The spice known as turmeric may be the most effective nutritional supplement in existence. Many high-quality studies show that turmeric has major benefits for your body and brain. Many of these benefits come from its main active ingredient, curcumin.

We have Turmeric in its purest form in our Fuel Mineral Drink, find it in our cafe fridge!

Turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow color. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.

1. Turmeric contains curcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. 
However, the curcumin content of turmeric isn’t that high. It’s around 3% by weight. It would be very difficult to reach these levels just by using turmeric as a spice in your foods. Curcumin is poorly absorbed into your bloodstream. To make it more available to us, we need to add BLACK PEPPER, which contains Piperine, this enhances its absorption by 2000%! So, you will see that our drinks also contain black pepper, but you can’t usually taste it! 

2. Helps with inflammation

Chronic inflammation contributes to some common health conditions. Curcumin can suppress many molecules known to play major roles in inflammation, but its bioavailability needs to be enhanced. (...)
