In September, Loreburn quickly acted to pull together a range of measures and to provide staff with a toolkit of signposting resources to assist customers who tell us they are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. This brings together the resources available across Scotland and locally within Dumfries and Galloway that teams can access easily to support customers.
It includes:
- Scottish Government’s new Cost of Living Support Scotland website providing a ‘one stop shop’ to help those struggling with the cost of living.
- Advice and support available from Money Advice Scotland to improve financial wellbeing and access to debt advice.
- Practical advice on issues relating to energy suppliers through Energy Advice Scotland,
- Impartial advice on gas and electricity cost savings via Lemon Aid from Citrus Energy.
- Free and confidential advice on a range of issues including benefits, debt, employment, housing and homelessness from D&G Citizen’s Advice Service; including Money Map resource to increase income, reduce bills and ease the costs of daily living.

GRAB Trust

The GRAB Trust is delivering a project into schools and communities, which helps to tackle period poverty and promote reusable period products (including making your own).
Every school in Argyll and Bute will receive a box packed with educational menstrual goodies. These educational packs are the culmination of The GRAB Trust’s Be Part of the Cycle project, all about having periods that are healthy for you and the planet.
Thanks to project funders Sea-Changers, and product donors, Cheeky and Hey Girls, each box contains examples of reusable period products and links to online learning resources for both teachers and students.
These packs will support teachers to explain the environmental, health, and financial benefits of re-usable period products. Helping new and future generations of Argyll choose the best menstrual product for them and the planet.

Create Community Wealth (CCW) is a project aiming to support residents in North Edinburgh and Wester Hailes who would like to develop new or existing business ideas.
We aim to break down the barriers associated with starting a business by providing tailored support and creating opportunities for people to develop unique products and services in their local communities.
We are offering grants of £100 – £500 for people who need some practical funding to kick-start or grow their businesses. We have £9000 available and aim to award between 20 – 30 grants.
Micro-grant applications are open to anyone in the North Edinburgh & Wester Hailes communities.

Essentia Foundation

This round of funding is aimed at supporting grassroots community organisations across Scotland. Grants are to be spent over a period of 12 months.
The fund is looking for projects that:
- Support the participation in mainstream society for individuals with learning disabilities or long-term life limiting health conditions
- Support young people who face long-term challenges living in poverty and inequality.
- Support those who have been excluded from school to access or return to education or training opportunities
- Provide skills and training to those who are furthest from the labour market
- Aim to improve the health and welfare of children and young people (being those under 25)
Please note the above are all in relation to supporting young people up to the age of 25 only.

As each day closes the effects of the Cost of Living Crisis are accumulating and intensifying for those already living at the sharp end of our society. The COVID 19 Pandemic disproportionately affected those on the lowest incomes, who had not yet recovered financially before being thrown into further despair and destitution by the Cost of Living Crisis. Too many people this winter will not be able to feed themselves and their families on a daily basis.
Third sector organisations that provide emergency food aid are buckling under the rising demand for food, supply chains and drying up and donations are dwindling. Public Sector cuts are deepening and the economy is spiralling out of control. For too many, there is no hope only increasing despair and destitution.
One man told us “during lockdown we were not allowed to go out, now we are but can’t afford to, we can’t even afford to stay in. I fear for my future.”
As Civic Scotland has been calling on the Scottish and UK Governments to implement emergency measures we are inviting people from across Scotland and beyond to come together to talk about what needs to be done now to protect people’s right to good food with dignity.

A £1million fuel support programme to help hard-pressed households in the Glasgow Fuel Support Project will help families with top-up payments, advice and assistance.
The Glasgow City Council Fuel Support Project aims to help eligible citizens in Glasgow gain access to a £49 fuel top-up payment, as well as energy advice and assistance.
Families with children at home and receiving Council Tax Reduction are eligible for the support, and they should contact Glasgow Helps on 0141 276 1185 if they require a referral for a fuel top-up or energy advice.
The grant is part of a wider package of support offered to citizens through the Glasgow Helps team who will support with fuel needs as well as any other needs identified. Glasgow Helps staff will carry out an eligibility check, and a grant of £49 will be awarded via a fuel voucher which will be administered on the families' behalf by HEAT (The Wise Group) directly with the energy provider.

Grants from £10,001 to £75,000 for projects to help support individuals, families and communities currently experiencing hardship as a result of the cost-of-living increases.
More people than ever before are likely to face severe challenges as a result of the cost-of-living crisis.
Through this programme we aim to fund activity that reduces the impact of, or prevents financial insecurity. We want to fund activity that means people:
- have more resilience and are more able to identify ways to deal with the impact of increased cost of living in their lives
- are able to shape activity in their community to address the increased cost-of-living
- have more access to support and services that will help them to deal with the increased cost of living

Greggs Foundation

For various reasons, many kids sadly don't get the right start to their day. Hungry children find it harder to concentrate and learn, ultimately impacting their academic attainment. Giving children a good start to their day gives them a good start in life so, in 1999, we launched our Breakfast Club programme to provide a free breakfast to children who need it.
Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day - that's 8.5 million meals a year.
We directly fund half of these clubs through the Greggs Foundation, and have welcomed onboard more than 120 local and national partners who provide grants to cover the costs of the other clubs. The Greggs Breakfast Club Programme was established in 1999 to help primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day.
Every school is provided with fresh bread from their nearest Greggs shop, and a grant to support start-up and ongoing costs.

Bank of Scotland Foundation provides almost £1m of additional financial support to Scotland’s Third Sector
In light of the new challenge impacting Scotland, we are providing almost £1m of additional financial support to Scotland’s Third Sector to help charities through the cost of living crisis. This will enable us to provide more grants throughout the remainder of this year, as well as providing extra support to our current grantees.
All our current grantees have been offered a 10% grant uplift to help towards rising costs and ensure they can continue to deliver their services. We expect 179 charities to share £327,332.
As there is the strong possibility that some charities will not be able to survive the coming year, we have increased the budgets of our remaining programmes for this year by £650,000 to ensure more charities can benefit from our programmes.
