FAIRVIEW COLUMNS

OUR WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Be with us Sunday as we continue making our way through the Beatitudes within our sermon series on the Gospel According to Matthew.
FAIRVIEW FAMILY,
Each week I send you this newsletter to keep you updated on what's ahead in the life of our church. I'm going to take this space now to highlight a few items that are of special importance over the next several days.
First, please note the bridal shower for Rachael Rugg tomorrow from 2-3:30 p.m. She and Jacob Demuth are registered at bedbathandbeyond.com, Amazon Wedding on amazon.com, and pamperedchef.com. Let's support them as they prepare for marriage!
Secondly, I'd like to mention the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church this Sunday. People all over the globe will lift up persecuted Christians in prayer. Let me encourage you to do the same. To help with that, visit https://www.persecution.com/idop/. How appropriate to mention this now, for as we move through the Beatitudes, we land upon Matthew 5:10-12: "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
Lastly, let me draw special attention to this Wednesday night. During the normal Table Talk time, our adults will cover the difficult but necessary Birds and the Bees discussion. We did this in the Spring, and as a parent I can say this was incredibly helpful. Our children need to know how to biblically understand sex, and parents are to be the primary educators in this area. I hope you will attend and participate. This will be helpful for all adults even if you don't have children. Even if your children are grown, we could use your wisdom. This discussion is for adults; all children's classes will operate as normal.
I think that does it for now. Other times of teaching, prayer, service, and fellowship are listed below. See you Sunday.
Grace be with you.

Book of the Month | The Presbyterian Story: Origins and Progress of a Reformed Tradition by Donald Fortson
For a while now, I've used this space to suggest a book to you; November's book is a concise and yet informative history of Presbyterianism in America, connecting our history with that of the Reformation and even with the early church. Pick up a copy wherever good books are sold. What else are you reading these days? Let me know!
