First external review of the IPBES nexus assessment
First external review of the IPBES transformative change assessment

Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

I am pleased to announce that the first order draft of the chapters of the thematic assessment of the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health (nexus assessment) will be open for external review from 9 January to 19 February 2023 (6 weeks).

The first order draft of the thematic assessment of the underlying causes of biodiversity loss, determinants of transformative change and options for achieving the 2050 vision for biodiversity (transformative change assessment) will be open for external review from 3 February to 17 March 2023 (6 weeks).

A series of online dialogue workshops will be held to support the external reviews.

The first external review is one of the most important phases in the IPBES assessment process. The widest-possible participation and most diverse engagement of interested and qualified experts, including scientists, decision makers, practitioners and other knowledge holders, is vital to ensure the scientific quality, credibility and policy relevance of the two assessments.

Information on how to register as a reviewer and access the documents will be shared at the beginning of the respective review period for each assessment.

I thank you in advance for your participation and for your continued support to IPBES.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Anne Larigauderie | Executive Secretary
