It's the Wednesday Email!Dear Church- The Sunday after November 1 is always a special one for me. One of the great joys and obligations of church life is to remember with joy the lives of people who have changed us throughout the years. It’s a moment of connection to generations past and future, a moment to remember that traditions in the church exist not simply because they are what has always been done, but to remind us that when we, too, are gone, there will be something of us in what remains. So we set this day aside to remember in light all the people whose presence can still be felt in the margins of our lives. We bring them to the center once more and remember in their names the acts and the impact their lives have left behind. If you have particular names of people who have died in the past year that you’d like to lift up in worship, we invite you to email the office or Pastor Nathan, and we will be sure to include them from the pulpit. Come and Worship! Grace and Peace, Pastor Nathan

Exploring Progressive Christian Theology |
Community Thanksgiving Worship! | The Ankeny Ministerial Association community thanksgiving worship is back this year! Join us at 7pm on Tuesday November 22 at Resurrection Lutheran Church (next to Prairie Ridge Middle School/sports fields). It’s an outstanding opportunity to gather in joy and fellowship with church members from across the community. And to eat pie afterwards. |

| This week’s scripture reminds us that we all have gifts of the spirit. Sometimes they are hidden, and sometimes they come to the fore. As we head into annual meeting, we are looking for people with gifts for creative worship, for education, for service and outreach, and for fellowship to serve as deacons for the next two years. Sue and Stephanie have done an able job as a duo since February, but we are believe church is better when we can host more diverse temperments and talents in our lives of discipleship! |

| Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our church vitality survey! Our consultant is analyzing the data alongside information I provided to her and that she has about Ankeny. Our next step will be for representatives from the council to talk with her about her findings. |

And Serving Beyond |
Pie | Remember when I said up above that we get to share Pie at the Thanksgiving dinner? There is a pie tax involved in participating in the worship service; each congregation has to contribute 5 pies. We know! It’s hard to find time to make BONUS PIES the week of Thanksgiving. So, as had become our tradition, we’re planning to gather on Saturday, November 19 in the church to bake some pies together. We’ll then have them for sale on November 20. We invite anyone who wants to join the pie-making party to come out on the 19th. Sign up so we can plan (or if you want to donate pie supplies)! |

Trick or Treating for Canned Goods | Thanks to our trick-or-treaters (above) and our can donors (some also above). It was, as usual, a lot of fun, and we all enjoyed visiting and eating marshmallows afterwards. We’ll put a picture of the altar into the Sunday Worship Email to show all the cans, boxes, and diapers that we collected! |

Songs of Gratitude | Local musicians from diverse faith communities will be hosting a concert benefitting the DMARC Food Pantry Network on November 6th at 6:30pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive. In this season of giving thanks there are many neighbors who are struggling to feed their families. Each year area food pantries see the highest number of visitors in November. A free will offering to benefit the DMARC Food Pantry Network. They are encouraging donations of non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, canned fruit in juice, or whole grain cereal. |
