Hello West Colfax Neighbors!
WeCAN recently received a mini grant from Denver's Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency (CASR) office to promote WeCAN's Sustainability efforts. We are very excited to have been granted these fund to help us further WeCAN's mission of "Bringing Neighbors Together to Build Community."
Waste Warrior Wednesdays was started this past summer by a few passionate West Colfax neighbors committed to beautifying their neighborhood. This grassroots effort has met every other Wednesday since August, gathering neighbors to clean up alleys along the West Colfax corridor. Join us on November 16 and 30 at 4:00 PM at Seedstock Brewery (3610 W. Colfax Ave.) to beautify West Colfax and get to know a few of your neighbors. First drink on us after the clean up!
Lake Legacy Day is a day Lake Middle School students take off from traditional learning and complete community service projects around the neighborhood (trash clean up, gardening efforts, picking weeds, helping neighbors with yard work), and connecting with their classmates. Neighbors are invited to join in the day, December 15, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM starting at Lake, 1820 Lowell Blvd. Volunteers will need to complete a DPS background check and lunch will be served after the event.
We hope you will join us for one or all of these sustainability and community building events!
Warm Regards,
WeCAN Board of Directors

Lake Legacy Day:
A Day of Community and Service
Date: December 15, 2022
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: Lake Middle School, 1820 Lowell Blvd.
Every year Lake Middle School takes a day off from traditional learning for Lake Legacy Day. Students spend the morning completing community service projects (picking up litter, yard projects for neighbors, etc) and connecting with their classmates.
This year the West Colfax Community is invited to participate in this event!
Register here if you would like more information on volunteering on Lake Legacy Day.
All clean up supplies and lunch will be provided.
Because this is a Denver Public Schools (DPS) event, all volunteers must complete a DPS background check that will be verified before the event. The background check can be completed at
https://app.sterlingvolunteers.com/en/Candidates/Account/Register
This year, Lake Middle School is looking for neighbors who live near the school (Grove St. to Perry St. and Colfax Ave. to 23rd Ave.) who are in need of some extra help with yard care due to a mobility or disability restraint. This can be raking yards, cleaning out gardens, trimming bushes, or whatever outdoor projects you need help with.
Student, Lake staff and community volunteers will come out to help that morning at a time that works best for you! Please fill out this form and we will get in touch with you.

West Colfax Neighborhood Watch Information Meeting
Date: Wednesday, November 30
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Colorado Family Church,
3400 W. 14th Ave.
Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention strategy based on bringing community members together to partner with the police department in addressing crime through proven crime prevention strategies. When established, a Neighborhood Watch Program can help provide each person in your neighborhood with the information needed to assist in keeping a watchful eye on each other’s property. The program will teach you how to look for suspicious activity in your neighborhood, when to call the police, and pertinent information to provide when calling for police service. Neighborhood Watch builds community not just between neighbors but also with the police department.
The first step in the process is to have neighbors attend an informational meeting at which important Program information is presented by District One Community Resource Officers. Once established, the City will install a Neighborhood Watch street sign on your block. Participating blocks are asked to hold a social engagement once a year – as a means of staying in contact and to hear from your assigned Community Resource about current activity in your neighborhood.
