President's Letter

Dear Friends of the King Foundation,
We hope you, your organizations and networks are doing well. We continue to be encouraged by your work, just completing our Fall grant cycle inspires us through the innovative work our nonprofit partners continue to achieve.

On the heels of our constituent survey, we are working with our board to incorporate your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you for your partnership.

During the fall, the Foundation conducted a Grantee and Applicant Perception Survey to help us understand and improve our relationships with our partners. Exponent Philanthropy served as our partner in this project, acting as an impartial third party to receive anonymous feedback. They asked survey respondents 17 multiple choice questions on a scale of one to five, as well as several open ended questions. The Kenneth King Foundation distributed this survey to 155 organizations that applied for or received a grant, and 74 responded.

We learned that while we have some strengths based on these responses that included providing timely responses to calls and emails, offering helpful information during the application process and serving as quality though partners; we also identified several areas for improvement. Among those areas were the effort required in relation to the size of the grant award, time between submitting the request and hearing back, and demonstrating collaboration with the community. We also heard loud and clear that organizations are interested in multi-year funding.

All of these findings, as well as the full set of open-ended responses, has been shared with the King Foundation Board members. We are reviewing the feedback and our processes to identify areas of change and improvement. Stay tuned in early 2023 for more information on how this feedback has informed our work for 2023 and beyond.
