November’s Theme: Secure Your Garbage and Recycling

Photo of recycling bin with paper in it. "Secure your garbage and recycling!"

Securing your garbage and recycling can help prevent litter in your neighborhood, especially when it’s windy! Here are a few tips:

  • Bag all garbage before placing it in the tote
  • Safely place heavy items on top to weigh lighter items down
  • Place each recycling bin on the ground separately
  • Secure your load if you haul waste in your car
Visit Whatcom County Health Department’s website for more tips on recycling scrap paper, newspaper, and cardboard.
Orca Recovery Day was a Success!

Photo of person holding orca balloon with a "Thank You" overlay. Thank you to all the community members who came out to California Creek in support of our Southern Resident Orcas on October 15th! Over 65 volunteers worked hard to plant 238 native plants and remove over three cubic yards of invasive blackberries along California Creek. Read more about this day of action on Whatcom Conservation District’s Latest News blog.

Orca recovery doesn’t stop at Orca Recovery Day. There is strength in numbers if we all contribute to orca recovery! Check out the actions you can take every day to help orcas at betterground.org.
