VOTE!!  Election Day is Tuesday November 8, 2022
November has a number of important dates to celebrate – Thanksgiving Day, Veterans Day (if you’re old enough, you know this as Armistice Day – remember the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month) and, taking second place to none, Election Day.  No matter where you are on November 8, you should be dropping by your polling place and assuring that your choices of candidates and propositions are recorded – unless you’re like millions of others, and have already voted by absentee ballot. This is not only your civic obligation, but an indication of your active participation in choices of governance in our democracy.
Get out and vote.  Your choices matter.

Straits Area Services: Together, Putting Abilities to Work

Straits Area Services (SAS), is a private, non-profit, Community Rehabilitation Organization that empowers people with developmental disabilities to realize their full potential. SAS has been in business since 1976 providing community integration, supported employment, skill building, rehabilitative training, business support, work enclaves, and more, to their clients and to the Cheboygan community. Some of you may already know about the good work this organization does. But SAS is special and deserves to be featured every now and then.
SAS is located at 1320 West State Street in Cheboygan.
They offer secure shredding services for 19.5 cents/pound, with a $5.00 minimum. Here’s the solution to getting rid of those old bank statements, tax records and other personal and confidential materials, you’ve been storing in the pole barn or taking up valuable cottage space. All materials destroyed at their facility are taken to the Emmet County Recycling Center. They also make delightful Michigan (Lower and Upper Peninsulas) cookie cutters.
