Soaring Heights Community,

During the Late Start this week our teachers spent time discussing the Five Strands of Mathematics Instruction. Teachers shared examples of best practices from their classrooms and then were able to work together to design lessons for the coming weeks.  As a staff, we will continue to emphasize mathematics during the year. We would like to cordially invite our middle school families to our Honor Roll ceremony on November 17 (see details below).

The weather may have cooled off, but the cold hasn’t dampened our giving spirit.  Our families donated over 450 pairs of new socks to support students and families in need. We continue to have monthly kindness campaigns. For November, the theme is “We are all connected in supporting each other” in honor of Veterans' Day.

We are looking forward to our Veterans’ Day Celebration on November 11 starting at 8:45.  The middle school will be part of the ceremony and it will be streamed to elementary classrooms as well.  It is not too late to RSVP if you would like to attend.  We are also still looking for pictures of veterans for the Wall of Honor (to be turned in at the front office).

The Halloween parade and parties were a tremendous success.  It was amazing to see so many people.  The costumes were very creative.  It was also heartwarming to see the support of our middle school students cheering on our elementary students during the parade with high fives and signs of encouragement. The middle school “Night of Frights” school dance was also a lot of fun for our students.

We are very proud of our Robotics and Cyber Patriots teams who continue to compete at high levels during their seasons.  With over 100 students involved in Robotics, it is a terrific opportunity for students to engage in engineering concepts, learn how to collaborate as a team, and have some fun.  Cyber Patriots teams are leading the way in the burgeoning field of cyber security. We also started a Chess Club for 4th-8th graders that meets on Thursdays after school (it’s not too late to sign-up).  Basketball continues to deliver exciting games and demonstrating strong sportsmanship.

As the weather begins to get cold or snow, please make sure to send your child with appropriate clothes as we typically go outside for recess.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you need anything.  Thank you for your outstanding support of our school.

Best wishes,

Cyrus Weinberger, Principal
Meghan Quirk, Assistant Principal
Krystal Trinkler, Dean
Rick Olsen, Dean

NEW Middle School Tardy Policy--- PLEASE READ

As we begin Quarter 2 we would like to express our appreciation to our parents for your support of Soaring Heights. We have had a tremendous start to the school year and your children are demonstrating great effort and a joy for learning. As part of our continued drive for excellence, we will be instituting a new punctuality incentive program “Rise On Time” and Tardy Policy beginning Quarter 2. Please note the intention of this initiative is to recognize our students that are punctual to class and have excellent attendance. Research shows that attendance is the number one factor in a child's academic success. Each week we will randomly draw students' names that meet the criteria for punctuality and exceptional attendance. These students will be rewarded with a small token of appreciation (prize). Additionally, students who accumulate excessive tardies (3 in a class) will be assigned detention to be served before or after school, or during lunch, each Wednesday and Friday depending on the student and parent's choice.

Please see the UPDATED Tardy Policy in the Student Family Handbook contact any one of the administrative team if you have questions.

Let's wrap up the fall season with a seasonal drawing of
pumpkins on a vine, a patterned bat, and colorful scarecrows
in a cornfield. Get ready for winter as we turn out holiday
lights, a "sweet" drawing of a gingerbread house (almost
good enough to eat!) and a wonderful winter scene. We'll
draw these (and many more exciting lessons!) while we
improve creative and critical thinking skills today's students need.
Before you pack away those Halloween costumes our Middle School Drama Department would love if you'd check and see if you have anything you'd be willing to donate!

Please consider donating old costumes and accessories to our program for use in a future show. The show this spring will be Frozen Jr. - so fun! However, the department will accept any gently used costumes child medium size or larger. Please contact Beth Chaudhri at chaudhri_beth@svvsd.org with any questions.

Thank you for supporting Soaring Heights Performing Arts. ❄️⛄️🎟🎤

Applying online is the fastest way to get your application processed to ensure no lapse in coverage happens. Applying online also reduces the chance for errors and the need to send applications back to families to correct.

If you do not believe you qualify for free or reduced-price meals, please make sure that there is money on your students’ accounts. You can add money to their account through MySchoolBucks
