Meet this year's Ray of Hope Prize Recipient!

Congratulations to GreenPod Labs who has been awarded First Place in this year's Ray of Hope Prize! This India-based agricultural biotechnology startup is focused on tackling the food loss problems in developing countries.

By learning how fruits and vegetables naturally resist pest and fungal pathogens, GreenPod Labs showcases how learning from nature can solve both climate and societal problems.

“We are proud to support GreenPod Labs as the 2022 recipient of the Ray of Hope Prize for their work to eliminate post-harvest food loss,” said Jared Yarnall-Schane, Innovation Director at the Institute.

“Project Drawdown cites ‘reducing food waste’ as one of the most impactful things we can do to lower the amount of CO2 produced, while at the same time ensuring better livelihoods and nutrition for people around the world. We are inspired by GreenPod Labs' biomimetic approach to solving such a critical issue."
Fusion Bionic has been selected as Runner-Up for this year's Ray of Hope Prize. They developed a novel laser technology capable of integrating functional micro and nanostructures inspired by nature’s surface textures to replace today's surface finishing technologies that rely on ecologically harmful manufacturing processes.
"I love how they fuse a high tech approach based on lasers steeped in the wisdom of nature to create the finishes we expect without the use of so many toxic chemicals and solvents.” — Andrew Courtney, National Geographic Society,
