National Asbestos Awareness Week is coming

Planning some renovations or home improvement projects? If you need to remove and dispose of asbestos, make sure you do things the right way. For National Asbestos Awareness Week (21-27 November), we’re spreading the word about how and where to dispose of asbestos safely. Remember, asbestos cannot go in your kerbside bin or bulk waste collections. Prepare it appropriately to avoid posing a risk to human health and the environment, and take it to the West Metro Recycling Centre.

To keep yourself and your family safe, it’s strongly recommended that you call in a professional in to help locate, manage and remove asbestos safely.

Book Verge Valet™ in advance for Christmas

Verge Valet™ is the convenient bulk and/or greenwaste collection service on your timeline. As you tidy up for your Christmas celebrations, keep in mind that there will be no Verge Valet™ collections between 23 December 2022 and 6 January 2023, as the Verge Valet Collection Team will be taking a well-deserved break. The good news is that you can book 8 weeks in advance, and bookings are already open for late December and early January.

Got items that still have life in them, but no longer for you? Visit our How to Reuse and Recycle Unwanted Items, so you can rehome what you can and Verge Valet™ what you can’t.

Keep toothpaste tubes out of your recycling bin

Even if the packaging and display in-store says they’re recyclable, toothpaste tubes cannot be recycled through your yellow-lidded recycling bin in WA.

Instead, you can squeeze out any remaining product and bring them to our Community Recycling Hub at the West Metro Recycling Centre (free for residents of our Member and Participating Councils).

Otherwise, please keep them in your red general waste bin to avoid contaminating the recycling stream.

It’s a wild world of waste out there! What waste issues would you like to hear more about in this newsletter? Tell us here.
