Newsletter of October 2022

The second month has passed. We visited multiple events and decided on new groundbreaking goals for this year. A successful month to say the least.

News

Military Boekelo

This month we attended several events. On the 8th and 9th of October, we attended the Military Boekelo-Enschede with our Motorcycle. The Military Boekelo-Enschede is one of the biggest equestrian sports events in the Netherlands. With more than 60.000 visitors each year it's the perfect mix of top sport, business and pleasure. It began as an equestrian event, but has now become one of the largest outdoor business-to-business events in the Netherlands!
Zero Emission fair

From Tuesday the 11th of October till Thursday the 13th of October we were present at the Zero Emission Ecomobiel beurs at the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch. This event is part of the ‘Nationale Energie Week’ to promote the transition to sustainable business and transport.
The Zero Emission Ecomobiel beurs was one of the four events, together with ‘Vakbeurs energie’, ‘Industrial Heat+Power’ and ‘Prefab’. The goal was to show the latest developments in sustainable transport, share knowledge and perform business. We were present for three days at our stand with the Apex-RS.
It was a successful event for Electric Superbike Twente as we met potentially new sponsors and had good conversations with current sponsors passing by in Den Bosch!

Partner highlights

We also received a Webinar from Würth Elektronik about REDcube. This is a line of connectors used for high current applications on PCB’s which are using a press fit method.

A word from our Chief Chassis

Another month is coming to its end and it was a busy month. Almost all Cad2M courses have been finished, which means that the chassis team is now an expert in creating 3D models and simulations in SolidWorks. In the beginning of this month, we also visited SKF, which is a company specialized in making bearings. This was an interesting day in which we learned a lot about SKF!

Furthermore, this was also the month in which we worked on the first big deadline, the requirements freeze. A lot of discussions and meetings result in a thorough overview of all the requirements we have to meet. This is closely connected to the various meetings we had with the different companies that can help us to achieve our goals. The month was therefore rather busy, but nevertheless it was a joy to work on it!

We are seeing progress and the vision for this year is clear: We want an electric motorcycle that uses battery swapping technology to show the world that this is a promising technology for future electric racing!

A word from our Chief Powertrain

Last month we worked on the requirements. Some of these requirements have to do with performance like weight and power. Others have to do with safety; the battery can be disconnected manually and automatically for example.  Requirements in general are essential because if all requirements are met, the product is as desired. When these requirements are not complete and vague, the end product is incomplete, not as desired or extra time is needed during the design process to make clear requirements.
Furthermore, we have been testing some telemetry functionality with success. More information about the telemetry system and the use can be read on the Technical Tuesday.
