Our programme of festive-themed and winter workshops has been very popular again this year. We now have just a few places available on some wonderful workshops during the next few weeks and have featured these below. Scandi style willow decorations (star and reindeer)
Wednesday 9th November 10am - 12.30pm
Learn a variety of weaving techniques with an assortment of coloured willow and other interesting materials. Make a beautiful large star and a small reindeer for your wall or tree.

Starting silver clay
Thursday 10th November 10am - 4pm
An introduction to the amazing qualities of silver clay. An exciting one day workshop to create your own unique piece of silver jewellery. Discover the versatility of this medium through rolling, texturing and cutting techniques. Learn how to combine both clay and fireable stones, how to prepare your pieces for firing and how to professionally finish your work to a high standard.

Lino printing cards and tags
Wednesday 16th November 10am - 4pm
Spend the day learning this dynamic way of printing and produce personalised cards and gift tags for the festive season and special occasions. Students will use their own design or image to produce one lino cut for a gift tag and one for a card . Students will learn about transferring their designs onto lino, tools to use and safe cutting techniques. These will be inked up in one colour of your choice and printed using a small etching press.

Festive soap making
Wednesday 23rd November 10am - 12.30pm
Come and join us, melting, stirring and pouring our way to the perfect, cold process, traditional soap. Why not add some delicious fragrances such as cinnamon, orange or lemon and mint followed with a sprinkle of gold mica to enhance that festive feeling. Choose your fragrance and adornments to personalise your soaps making them perfect gifts for family and friends.

Festive candle making
Wednesday 23rd November 1.30pm - 4.30pm
Learn how to pour a container candle using sustainable rapeseed wax and how to 'wick' candles correctly. Have fun choosing your colours and joyful festive fragrances and learn how to add these to your poured candle. You will also make either Christmas tree candles, or two colour ‘helter skelter’ candles with beautiful coloured sheets of beeswax.

Festive decorations in polymer clay
Wednesday 30th November 10am - 1pm
A fun and festive session, learning how to use polymer clay to make a selection of attractive hanging Christmas decorations for your own tree or to give as gifts. You will mix and blend colours and use these to make a selection of simple decorations to take away on the day and simply bake at home. Full instructions will be provided.

Growing your own willow

This one day course will cover both the theory and practice of creating and managing your own willow bed. Whether you want to create living willow structures, natural fencing, grow willow for basketry or horticultural purposes, this day will provide you with hands on practical experience of planting cuttings, harvesting willow and maintaining your willow bed.

Woven willow chickens

Spend a fun and creative day weaving a willow chicken sculpture for your garden … or home! Learn how to sculpt different body shapes, use a random weave and how to add interesting details to make your sculpture lifelike. You can choose on the day whether to make either a cockerel or hen.

Embroidered book cover
Tuesday 24th January 10am - 3.30pm
Spend a relaxing and creative day making and embroidering a book cover. After making a pattern for your cover you will be able to choose your fabric from a wide range of beautifully eco printed and naturally dyed fabrics, all made and supplied by your tutor. Using simple hand stitching techniques, construct and embellish your cover. A variety of trimmings will also be available for you to use including buttons, buckles and coloured threads.

Silver jewellery in a day
Saturday 28th January 10am - 4pm
Spend a day learning simple techniques to produce your own metal jewellery. Practise tool use and model-making in copper first, then lose yourself in the magical process of turning silver into unique pieces of jewellery before your very eyes! Create one or two beautiful pieces of
simple jewellery to take home.

We have gift cards available for purchase as usual this year; these are just perfect for someone who would enjoy the pleasure of choosing their own workshop. Gift cards are available in any amount and there is no expiry date. Last date for posting for Christmas is Friday, 16th December. Alternatively, collect one when you are next at Westhope.
