“Committed to ending human trafficking and sexual exploitation by raising awareness through the media and grassroots mobilization, education, advocacy and policy.”

WARNING: This newsletter may be disturbing because it’s true.

Dear Warrior:

2022 is a midterm election year in the United States. November 8 is the day we cast ballots, inclusive of early voting, to select public officials from local to national government. A number of seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate will be contested. The media noise has been deafening. The public outcry has been deafening. The online outcry has been deafening. What’s been missing? We need more discussion in the media and with the public during this election cycle about the safety of children. The bipartisan issues surrounding digital and real time safety in the protection of our children.

                           News Image

Let’s Discuss

We know so many committed and dedicated local, state and national leaders, organizations, nonprofits, individuals, including brave survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, all working nonstop to protect children. Online and real time safety discussions should be at the forefront during this election cycle. I don’t hear much from the media or those running for office about this, do you? Crime is a major issue in the United States and discussed, rightfully so. But what about the critical and crucial issue of crimes being perpetrated against our vulnerable kids right in our own homes. Online. I don’t hear a deafening roar from those running for office or re-election about digital safety or the rallying cry of let’s hold those accountable who cause harm: predators, pimps, traffickers, sex buyers and Big Tech.

It is the Warriors' duty to share the reality of today’s 2022 digital world. CSAM child sexual abuse material is flourishing and escalating rapidly online with seemingly no end in sight. In 2021, the Cybertipline received reports of 29.3 million notifications of  potential child exploitation. The reports of  CSAM increased by 35% from 2020. SHOCKING. What will 2022 bring? It’s dark and overwhelming but having knowledge and resources to protect your child and family is our number one goal. It should also be our legislators'. As we continue urging more vocal support, sponsorship and co-sponsorship of existing child safety protection legislation, we cannot lose ground in the protection of our kids. We will share facts, truths, pending legislation and many things you might not know about regarding child safety. Easy take actions because you must become involved. You must become a Warrior in your own home and community. It’s 2022. We need all of you. We cannot do this alone. Grassroots involvement is the only way the Warriors can make a true difference in the protection of our precious children. We are showcasing a number of critical bills that we need your help with. You are a critical component in our success. The public must become involved and urge their representatives to support child protection bills in Congress. There are currently many great bills awaiting a vote. Be a part of history. Join us. Learn more. Protect our children online and in real time.

So what are we to do?

Do you know what your representatives stand for? Learn more and urge them to support child safety on myriad platforms by discussing with you, their constituent, how they will demonstrate full support of critical child protection bills.

Here are pending bipartisan bills to familiarize and educate yourself about as you prepare to call/speak/meet with your members of Congress:

EARN IT ActEliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies Act 2022 will remove blanket immunity for social media and technology companies that knowingly facilitate and distribute CSAM – child sexual abuse material – on their platforms.

KOSAKids Online Safety Act provides families with the tools, safeguards and transparency they need to protect against threats to children’s health and well-being online.

PROTECT ACT – Preventing Rampant Online Technological and Criminal Trafficking Act would require websites allowing sexually explicit material (pornography) to obtain verified consent forms from individuals uploading content, or appearing in uploaded content, and to require websites to remove images uploaded without consent.

NO TRAFFICKING ZONES ACT is self-explanatory and would increase punishment for human trafficking in school zones and increase punishment for coercion and enticement in school zones.

Take Action. Urge Congress to act immediately to protect our children. Big tech and the predators are winning. ENOUGH. It’s time to put a stop to these crimes online and in real-time affecting vulnerable kids and families. Use the Lynn’s Warriors Toolkit How to Contact Your Congressmember/Senator We urge you as a constituent to call, write or arrange a visit with your elected officials to discuss more federal regulation about child safety because of the clear and present dangers facing our children, families and communities. Take ActionPlease listen to Lynn’s Warriors WVOX Radio recent interviews with Survivor Leaders Uldouz Wallace and Katelynn Spencer. Hear their brave stories about how easily they were hacked and abused online, without their consent, and why they are advocating for online safety. They have bravely stepped forward to warn and educate others so no one else, including our vulnerable children, will have to experience and endure what they have including potential lifelong harms. #IBSA – image-based sexual abuse We need the PROTECT Act now!

Take ActionLet’s continue our end-of-year outreach to legislators and make a commitment to push even harder in 2023. There is a war on for our children. We need more existing bipartisan bills to be recognized in Congress and voted on. They must reauthorize real-time safety bills and enforce existing laws at the local, state and national levels. And we must pursue more in-person meetings with our representatives. Don’t be shy. They work for us. We also need more community engagement. It starts with you. Educate yourself and your family. The kids are seeking our involvement even if you don’t think that they are, especially our teens. Digital safety must become part of our lives in our homes. Know what your kids are doing online. Communicate. Also, speak to other family members and friends and raise awareness about all of these issues surrounding online and real-time safety of our children. Do they know about these issues? Available take actions and resources? Give some facts about children and teens and digital and real-time safety and I’m sure that they’ll want to learn more and #BeAWarrior.

It’s WRAP WEEK! October 31st – November 6th. White Ribbon Against Pornography (WRAP) week started in 1987, encouraging thousands of people across the country to participate in tackling the many societal harms of pornography. Let’s start with openly and honestly communicating with kids about the harms caused. This is a must in 2022.

Ninth Circuit Public Info & Community Outreach (@CourtsCommunity) / TwitterWashington, D.C. October 31. Ninth Circuit Affirms Dismissal Of Sex Trafficking Claims Against Reddit, Holding That FOSTA Exception Did Not Preclude CDA 230 Immunity On October 24, 2022, the Ninth Circuit affirmed the district court's dismissal of a putative class action against Reddit that sought to hold the Internet service provider liable for sex-trafficking violations. The court held that the claims were barred by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and did not fall within the controversial "FOSTA" exception to Section 230. With the historically broad scope of Section 230 immunity currently under review by the U.S. Supreme Court, the decision, which resolved a district court split on the level of culpability required to hold service providers liable for sex trafficking claims.
