November 2022: Welcome to the Fall edition of

The NAILing List
Neil Alexander & NAIL onstage at the Upfront Exhibition Gallery

Welcome!

It's the Final Edition of the Nailing List for 2022

Hello fine people, friends, fans and family! I hope you are all well.

Fall has (ahem) fallen, temps are going down, the leaves are changing, and at the moment I’ve only got 3 dates currently booked for the rest of this year. But the big news this time is the release of a new CD, titled "The Album That Never Was". It's a collection of live cuts from the most recent NAIL show, recorded at the Upfront Exhibition Space in Port Jervis NY. So with that, here’s what’s likely the last newsletter of 2022. It’s been a weird year, and it ain’t over yet.

Here’s what’s happening.

NOV. 4th 2022 - A NEW CD!

The Album That Never Was:

Live Tracks 2022

As of 2022, NAIL has been playing consistently for 23 years. During our 20th year run (2019) I decided that 2020 was going to be the year we made our first big live record. When I was growing up all my favorite bands had killer live records. It was just what bands did. So I thought “it’s time”. We all know what happened there.

We almost managed to get one recorded this year on August 19th, but I got COVID and had to cancel the show… so for now it still eludes us. Meanwhile, we had a great show the Upfront Exhibition Space in Port Jervis NY on September 30th and I've complied 5 tracks from that into a collection called "The Album That Never Was." Featuring Brian Mooney on basses and Nadav Snir-Zelniker on drums, these tracks showcase the band in great form; and the recordings came out really well despite ony being 2 track recordings. A little mastering spit & polish and voila! And if you purchase the complete CD on Bandcamp you’ll get 3 bonus tracks, one each from 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Plus, November 4th is BandcampFriday. Basically what that is is on the first Friday of the month since March of 2020, Bandcamp has waived their revenue share to help support the many artists who have seen their livelihoods disrupted by the pandemic. Over the course of 23 days, fans have paid artists and labels more than $84 million dollars, helping cover rents, mortgages, groceries, medications, and much more. Bandcamp is awesome, so I urge you to support the artists you know that use it. Everyone wins!

The plan is for NAIL to continue doing many more shows in the coming years. I hope this collection of live recordings whets your appetite for more and inspires you to come and experience the magic in person, as it happens.

Thanks for listening!

Upcoming Shows

As stated, 3 shows coming up – and 2 of them are streaming shows.

NOV 14th 8pm at Quinns, Beacon NY – Eric Person Quartet: The Music of Ronald Shannon Jackson
  • This is always a fun show as RSJ’s music is exciting and challenging, and leaves lots of room for exploration. The rhythm section of Robert Kopec (bass) and Peter O’Brien (drums) keeps things percolating! And Quinn's is a great place to see live music.

NOV 25th 7:30pm – SUPERCLUSTER w/Robert Kopec and Dean Sharp
Night Flight Music Live
(Streaming)
  • Supercluster is a primarily improvising trio. The 3 of us have been playing for nearly 20 years (if not longer) and have developed a significant collective language which you need to experience in person. We’ll be doing a streaming concert as part of the Night Flight Music Live series – but here’s the thing: we’re inviting up to 15 People to enjoy the concert IN STUDIO. That’s right – we’re letting folks in to the studio while we live stream! If you’d like to be in the lucky studio audience send an email to supercluster@nailmusic.com. There will be no cover for this show – just an amazing experience you won’t soon forget. Details will be posted at www.nightflightmusiclive.com.

DEC 30th 7:30pm - Eric Person Quartet: The Music of Ronald Shannon Jackson - Night Flight Music Live  (Streaming)
  • And for the last show of the year The Eric Person Quartet returns to Night Flight Music Live, this time to perform the RSJ music. We will be cutting a record at this session, and you can tune in and watch it as it happens! Details at www.nightflightmusiclive.com.

...And that as they say, is that – at least for now. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that all kinds of things pop up at the last minute. It ‘looks’ now like I only have 3 shows left this year but that could completely change in a week, or even a day. As always stay tuned to the nailmusic.com calendar page for the up-to-the-minute shock news (or at least gig listings).

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE – PLEASE!
