From the Special Education Director

Greetings Seven Hills Families!

I hope you all had a great week. It is time for Give to the Max so if you, your extended family, or a business are looking to make donations, this is a great opportunity. Give to the Max Day is November 17th, however, the Give to the Max donating is open now! This year's profits will go towards new technology at our Bloomington Campus and a sound system for our Richfield Campus gymnasium.

Last year we raised over $9,000 and look forward to beating this goal for this years’ Give to the Max.

If you would like to donate, click
https://www.givemn.org/organization/Pta-Minnesota-Congress-30558

We are currently looking for parents of students with Individualized Education Program (IEP) Plans or Section 504 Plans to be a part of our Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC). A SEAC is a group that provides input on issues and policies in Special Education along with helping to plan trainings or presentations for parents that are relevant to current issues in special education. If you are interested in joining our SEAC from either Bloomington or Richfield, please reach out to me at kdocken@shpamn.org
.

Have a great weekend!

Kate Docken

News

New Website 2023: SHPA will be designing a new website! We are looking for input from our community to better serve our students, parents/guardians, and staff. Please take this short New Website Survey to help inform us of your thoughts and needs as we continue this process.

Child Tax Credit Deadline: Millions of eligible families may easily claim the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) until Nov. 15, 2022. Eligible families can claim the CTC at
 GetCTC.org/mn

Many families may not know that they are eligible for the CTC or that they can still claim it using a simplified filing tool. Families can also use the simplified tool to file their tax return if they have not yet received the third stimulus check. The simplified tool GetCTC.org/mn is for families who do not have a 2021 filing requirement – typically this means their income is below $12,550 if filing single, or $25,100 if filing married. The traditional filing method is still available until 2025. The November 15 deadline is for those interested in using the electronic portal.

One Chip Challenge: We are aware that social media trends are prevalent and may seem exciting for students to engage in. Some of you may have seen the "One Chip Challenge'' on social media. For safety reasons, we cannot allow this challenge or these chips at either Seven Hills' campus. In the past, we have had students get sick doing this challenge. Students will receive consequences for participating or bringing these chips to school. Thank you for your help and support in this matter.

Picture Retake Day: November 10th, 2022

2023-2024 Open Enrollment for New SHPA Students Opens November 1, 2022:
Do you have a son or daughter in your household that will be eligible to join SHPA for the 23-24 school year? Do you know a family that wants to join our exciting school community? Please click HERE to learn more about the Open Enrollment process and the link to sign up for the 23-24 school year will be live at 12:01am on November 1, 2022.

**Please note, current 2022-23 SHPA students DO NOT have to re enroll for the 2023-24 school year.

Cold Weather Reminder:
With the cooling temperatures and incoming colder weather, please make sure your students start bringing their jackets, hats, boots, and mittens. Students will go outside everyday for recess unless it rains or the air temperature is below 0 or the wind chill is below -10.

Volunteer Opportunity:
We are looking for a parent or guardian volunteer to assist in our Elementary lunchroom every day, 11am-12pm. Duties would include working with the lead lunch supervisor, helping students with opening their milk or food items, and helping with clean up. If you are interested, please email Principal Farrell at
 cfarrell@shpamn.org.

Important Update to Dismissal Procedures:
If your child walks and/or rides a bike to and from school each day, please email our Office Receptionist Ms. Moreno at
ymoreno@shpamn.org. We will make an official list of students walking and riding their bikes as their primary mode of transportation to and from school. We will also provide crossing guards for you to safely cross the intersection at Girard Ave and 76th Street. **If you are not a walker or a biker, parents and family members are not allowed to park at Bethel's Rock or US Bank and walk up to the school to pick up your child. All families must follow the arrival and dismissal process in order to maintain safety for our students who are walking out to busses and family vehicles. We appreciate your attention and cooperation to a successful process.

COVID-19 Update: RC COVID-19 Update:
See the
SHPA COVID-19 Webpage for resources and information. If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please contact Ms. Erickson, School Nurse, and follow the MDH COVID-19 Isolation Guide. Contact Mr. Barrios, COVID-19 Coordinator, with any questions.

Middle School News

Parent Chaperones Needed for the Middle School Dance: We will hold our fall dance on November 11th for all middle school students. We are looking for 7-10 parents to help SHPA teachers chaperone the event. Parents will help with serving pizza (6-8pm), supervising dancing or game playing (6-8pm), or helping with clean-up (7:30-9pm). Please, email Ryan Grutsch at rgrutsch@shpamn.org if you are interested in volunteering.

SHPA High School Fair: The SHPA High School Fair has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 9th from 5:30-7:00 pm in the Richfield Campus Gymnasium. We will have Multiple High Schools in attendance that evening. All Middle School Families are invited. For any questions, please reach out to Ms. Potter at
 mpotter@shpamn.org.

Middle School Homework Tracker: The Homework Tracker is an on-line school homework planner for our Middle School students. The planner is a quick but comprehensive way for you and your student to see homework that is assigned each day. Students will still be expected to complete their paper planner each day, but the Homework Tracker is another tool to double check the assignments. The link to access the Homework Tracker is below:

PTA

Spirit Gear Winter Sale -- Nov. 1 through Nov. 15: SHPA uses two websites to sell spirit gear -- everything from our famous tie-dye t-shirts to tumblers and other Spirit Wear Friday shirts. Both websites can be found on our PTA website here. The Educational Outfitters website carries items that can be ordered and shipped to your home at any time, and the NP West website carries items that are only on sale for specific times of the year. On November 1, we'll begin a Winter Sale of items listed specifically on the NP West site. You can order and pay for items on the site from Nov. 1 through Nov. 15, and your order will be brought to SHPA on December 15 for pick up. Details about how to pick up your item will be shared closer to the December 15 date.

SHPA High School Fair -- Current and alumni SHPA parents with students recently enrolled in high school have been invited to join us at our SHPA High School Fair on Nov. 9 at the Richfield campus. While the Fair itself occurs in the gym, the PTA will provide light refreshments in room 109 with an opportunity for parents to connect with each other and share information about the high school their student currently attends, along with any advice for making the high school decision. Thanks to our Middle School guidance counselor, Ms. Potter, for partnering with the PTA to support this networking opportunity! Questions? Reach out directly to the PTA at
sevenhillspta@gmail.com.

Give to the Max Fall Fundraiser: Mark your calendars for the week of November 14 through November 18, 2022 as we raise funds for our vibrant school community. As one of only two major fundraisers for our school, the Give to the Max Campaign is a way to give funds online in support of our teachers and students at Seven Hills. The money raised this year will be evenly divided between the two campuses and will be used to update the sound system at our Richfield campus gymnasium and expand the musical instrument selection at the Bloomington campus. Give to the Max day is set for Thursday, November 17 this year, but early giving is open now! Parents, family and friends are encouraged to support our school community by donating to our GiveMN page any time now through the close of Give to the Max on November 18, 2022. Visit our SHPA Give to the Max site now, and thank you for your support!

November PTA Meeting -- Nov. 14: All are welcome to join us at our November PTA meeting, whether or not you've formalized your PTA membership. We'll meet outside of school grounds this time, at Cowboy Jack's Castle Room in Bloomington. Food and drink purchases are optional, and the meeting runs from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Our agenda will be posted one week prior to the meeting. All SHPA families are welcome!

Reminder: SHPA Scholastic Book Fair -- Some families have asked about unused eWallet dollars. If students or teachers have a balance remaining on eWallet, they're welcome to still shop the Scholastic Book Fair online through Nov. 6. Scholastic offers free shipping on book-only purchases of $25 or more. Those attending the SHPA Bloomington Campus should shop from
this link, and those attending the SHPA Richfield campus should shop from this link. Your eWallet balances will remain available for one year.

November Family Dinner Night; Save the date! Find your favorite SHPA family and dine together at Davanni's in Bloomington on November 22. Details will be shared closer to the date!
