Hands up who still goes to Cannes?

We had two years of Covid, massive re-structuring in several industries (notably the movie and music businesses). Inevitably, all this is reflected in Cannes which is basically where many businesses meet to do business. The biggest casualty was the Midem music trade fair, which closed after more than 50 years as THE place to do business. But there's more on that below.

The other fairs have been reaping the rewards, as businessmen and -women got back to doing what they love doing: talking business. MIPCOM, the Film Market and Cannes Lions all weathered the storm, the Pan-African Film festival combined business with gala events

So why am I contacting you?

The reason is that there are new kids on the block you might want to investigate:

  • Cannes Gaming Festival One of the big new industries will get the red-carpet treatment in 2023
  • Cannes Series Documentaries The Cannes Series market is now running a documentary competition. The call for entries will open on November 14
  • MIDEM Yes, it is being resurrected. The city of Cannes has bought the brand and intends to do a soft launch in January 2023. Great, except their website is not up yet and no prices have been announced.
  • Blockchain Meetings Guess what this one will be about ;-)

Last news for moviemakers before I sign off: the Quinzaine/Fortnight (run during the Cannes Film Festival) has just opened its call for submissions. Just follow the link.

As always, last-minute news of Cannes can be found by Twitter here. If you know anyone that could be interested in these
