Dear Reader,

In the United States and Commonwealth Countries like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, where there are large Taiwanese diasporic communities, November 11th marks Remembrance Day (Veterans Day in the US). The day commemorates and reminds us of the sacrifices of soldiers who perished fighting for the peace that so many of us today take for granted—lest we forget the horrors of war and the suffering of those who have experienced it.

To mark the solemn occasion, Island Folklore highlights from its archives several stories in remembrance and honour of the many struggles in Taiwan’s history.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on our blessings and remember—lest we forget—the sacrifices of the past.

Enjoy!
