I look to the hills! Where will I find help?  It will come from the Lord, who created the heavens and the earth. Psalm 121:1–2 (CEV)

Greetings in the name of the One who is our help!!!

THE FIRST MONTH BACK

To say that the obstacles we met upon returning were significant would be true. This first month has been both an emotionally and physically exhausting period. We met several faulty components to the solar electricity (we thought we only needed new batteries); the well pump that was irreparable so it was replaced; the clinic census being less than optimal probably due to the economy (and possibly, being an election year, candidates providing free clinics from time to time); a massive amount of work in copying materials for school, getting teachers in place both physically and purposefully, finishing the toilet facility, etc.   All that to say, we have had God’s care demonstrated in some of the simplest but most encouraging ways (see the rest of the prayer letter!!)
It wasn’t in our plans, but our current inverter/controller went belly up.  We are up and running but still only getting about 12 hours of current a day because of the inability of the panels to deliver the needed amperage.
FAIR SHAKE VILLAGE SCHOOL

The school is in full swing!!  We are up to 65 students in 6 grade levels.  The ABC class (3 years old) is the largest at 33 students!! This is a good start but not enough to have self-sustainability. The government will want us to put a fence around the school so that expense will be soon.  If the school is an area you’d like to help financially, please go to https://fairshakevillage.org/give and chose either the “FSV School” or “Liberian Staff Sponsorship” in the Gift Designation drop-down window.
Every day begins with singing, devotions, praying, flag raising, recitation of the pledge and singing of the Liberian National Anthem.  Always fun to watch.
One of our students posing with one of the textbooks we have been blessed to use from MasterBooks.  It is a challenging curriculum for them but they are facing it head on!!
AZARIAH – FRIDAY MALARIA STORY

Many of you were able to hear the story of how a nine-year-old in the states was able to provide malaria treatment for a nine-year-old boy in Liberia and save his life.  Our hearts were made lighter when Friday and his father, Martin, came to see us!!  Indeed, a blessing to see a smile on his face and recall the grace of God in saving his life. We thought you’d like to know how Friday is doing.
A great blessing to be able to see Friday smile! After a serious battle with malaria in May, he is now able to come visit us at Fair Shake Village with his father, Martin.
OUR HELP COMES FROM THE LORD…

CLINIC We mentioned all the obstacles we faced upon returning.  Regarding the clinic, the good news is that we have an amazing staff who are committed to the health care provided through Fair Shake Village.  Some were even willing to take pay cuts to keep the clinic going through this challenging time.  We were blessed to have some great help with the clinic staff from one of our generous donors!  Our help comes from the Lord!

ELECTRICITY The solar “surprise” resulted in an additional $2300 expense that we hadn’t anticipated.  Again, a donor, without knowing the situation, gave an amount that nearly covered all that!  Our help comes from the Lord! The challenges of the solar are still not totally resolved.  We need a few cloudless days to get an accurate evaluation of the panels to know what we are facing.

AGRICULTURE The agriculture program is being helped by some of our deaf friends who were looking for work.  Again, folks have given to help in the ministry to the deaf to help make this possible.  Our help comes from the Lord!  We are currently investigating adding chickens and rabbits to the agriculture project to demonstrate and sustain that ministry.  We have had some contributions towards that but if this is an area of interest for, you may use the link above and select “Agriculture Program” in the Gift Designation drop-down window.
Carolyn caring on a conversation with Sonny Boy, one of our deaf helpers.  They are a joy to have around and a great help in so many areas!!
The agricultural area is increasing.  Fencing, poultry/rabbits pens and land clearing all are in the future as the Lord provides!  Our help comes from the Lord!
FUTURE PROJECTS

We still have hopes of beginning to dig the foundation for an administration building.  This building will house a registration area, several offices, and a teacher’s workstation and supply area.  This will require considerable funds, approximately $50,000.  Our help comes from the Lord!

There is still a great deal to do and your involvement has made it possible. With your prayers and support we will be able to keep moving forward in this ministry that God may be glorified.  Thank you so very much!! Glad to serve.
Because of His great love!!
