Friendly spirits made virtually ALL of our loaves disappear...

This was one heck of a Halloween! By Saturday's end there were only 6 Country Loaves left on the rack. What ever were we going to do? Its not like you can compress 3 days of dough work and 24 hours of curing into a couple of hours! Then I remembered we had some sliced "emergency loaves" in the freezer, so I took 10 of them out to thaw for the Sunday morning rush.

Well... after one of our busiest Friday/Saturdays, come Sunday morning, Magnolia Boulevard was a ghost town, at least it was for about an hour. Then people mysteriously appeared, came in, bought bread and spreads. When Saffouh appeared, he wanted 5 Country Loaves and 5 Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan loaves! That finished up the bread rack and got into the "emergency loaves" stock. Additionally, he had filled up not one but two Frequent Flour Rewards cards and so was given his 2 free loaves, taking home a total of 12 loaves of Breadness (including one of the 4 jack-o-lantern loaves I created for the weekend)!

After Saffouh left, the next wave of customers came rolling in. It wasn't long before those emergency loaves were history! And the customers kept on coming. So I dug into the freezer and pulled everything we had: sliced, unsliced, even Breadness Bowls! When the 2 o'clock hour chimed, our emergency stash was depleted. So this week, we made 24 more Country Loaves (and have about 15 loaves of Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan sourdough in the freezer); that should be enough to keep everyone happy!

There's a new mag in town...
Edible is a magazine I first saw while visiting Ojai. It's all about the art and craft of food and focuses on local farms and family-run food retail establishments. The Ojai/Ventura County edition is a beautiful publication and I still have the copy I got last December. So when I got an e-mail from Tami Chu, the publisher of that magazine, asking to meet me at our bakery, I was all in! She found Random Acts of Breadness while searching for artisan food establishments in the San Fernando Valley, the next chapter in Edible's expanding local coverage with their just-launched San Fernando Valley edition!

After meeting with Tami we agreed to have a stock of Edible magazines that we could give to our customers. After all, if folks love our artisan breads and specialty items we carry at the bakery, they probably would be interested in finding other food artisans in our geographic zone.

And a couple days ago, I got a call from one of Edible's writers who's doing a story on Random Acts of Breadness for an  upcoming issue! Stay tuned...

Spreadable!
We've just restocked all of our spreadables! This includes Raw Farm Butters, Nutiva Vegan Butter, NuttZo Keto Nut/Seed Butter, Laura Ann's Jams (17 flavors!) and Beyond the Olive Tapenades and Muffuletta. These spreads elevate the Breadness experience to amazing heights! Add some avocado and/or cheese to the mix and you've got a tasty meal to rival any tony café. Come sample these items and get inspired...

Random Acts of Breadness is located at 2214 West Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank (2-1/2 blocks east of Buena Vista on the south side of the street). Come to the bakery and sample our artisan wares, or order on line for bakery pickup, or have Breadness delivered or shipped to your door. You may also order by phone at 818-562-7303 and pay when you come pick it up.

Note: If you (or someone you wish to gift) live in Los Angeles County, Orange County or Ventura County, we can ship overnight on Thursday (via UPS Ground) for a Breadness Box to arrive on Friday. Place your order before Thursday at noon here.

See you Friday/Saturday 12 to 6 and/or Sunday 10 to 2 at the bakery!
