Welcome back to AWE's monthly newsletter!
AWE is now a partner organization of the HEAL Refugee Health and Asylum Collaborative! HEAL is a Johns Hopkins-based collaborate that provides and expands access to trauma-informed, affirming care and supportive services to immigrant survivors of torture and trauma. The HEAL partnership now includes Johns Hopkins, Esperanza Center, AWE, and Loyola University Maryland.
In October 2022, the federal government awarded AWE a competitive five-year grant in partnership with HEAL and the Intercultural Counseling Connection. Funding will allow us to provide comprehensive social, medical, and mental health services to torture survivors living in Maryland.
The holidays are approaching quickly! We are so excited to distribute holiday gifts to our clients again this year. While generous donors have already provided many new toys, we need your help purchasing some items including blankets, household items, non-perishable food items, and gift cards. Feel free to purchase any of these items and bring them to AWE, or shop our Amazon Holiday Wishlist. Please reach out to beth@asyleewomen.org with questions about current needs.
Thank you to everyone who supported our annual 5K fundraiser on October 22! Ninety people participated in the race and we raised nearly $18,000!
We're preparing to launch our End of Year Fundraising Campaign at the end of November. This year we hope to raise $25,000 to expand our financial literacy program and provide much need financial assistance to vulnerable asylum seekers and trafficking survivors.
