Leaf Collection Time is here!

Fall is here and city-wide leaf collection begins Monday November 14th. Raleigh is divided into 12 zones for this service and crews will start collecting in Zone 4 and continue through the other zones as weather allows.
The Mordecai Community is spread across two leaf collection zones numbered 8 and 11 with expected collection to start in Zone 8 on December 5th and Zone 11 on December 16th.

The city website can be found at https://raleighnc.gov/leaf

Please separate tree trimmings, shrubs, and other types of yard debris from your loose leaves. These items can damage vacuum equipment and create a safety hazard for crews. Yard waste and bagged leaves will continue to be collected on scheduled yard waste collection day. Leaves need to be raked to the curb and not into the street. Raking leaves into the street creates a safety hazard and can result in flooding when leaves are washed into the storm water system.

Please keep leaf piles away from obstructions such as parked vehicles, fire hydrants, mailboxes, fencing, designer landscaping, water meters, utility poles and guy wires. Our crews need room to work and do not want to damage our equipment or your property while collecting loose leaves.

ZONE 8 begins December 5: Those living east of Wake Forest Rd including the East Mordecai, Oakdale and Oakwood neighborhoods are scheduled to begin leaf collection Saturday, January 22

ZONE 11 begins December 16: Those living west of Wake Forest Rd including the Mordecai, Pilot Mill and Capital Park neighborhoods are scheduled to begin leaf collection Saturday, February 4

➡️ Co-Chair
➡️ Monthly Newsletter Editor
➡️ Neighborhood Representatives (all neighborhoods)

The Mordecai CAC is the Mordecai Community Action Coalition. We are a coalition of multiple neighborhoods working together to provide ways for citizens to share information, meet each other, and take action in our community. Neighborhoods include: Pilot Mill, Oakdale, Mordecai, East Mordecai, North Person/Blount, Cotton Mill, Capitol Park, and part of Oakwood.

URGENT NEED FOR CO-CHAIRS:  Two co-chairs are needed if the MCAC is going to continue. One person will serve a one year term starting immediately, and the other will serve a two year term starting in January 2023.

Co-chairs are responsible for planning meeting agendas and leading the direction of the CAC. If you are interested or know of a neighbor that would be good for the job, we'd love to talk to you.

Please contact Merrilee Jacobson or Dana Deaton at chair@mordecaicac.org.

Join the MCAC Leadership Team!

The MCAC Leadership team is open and welcomes any resident of the Mordecai Community. Our core group of neighbors communicates regularly to plan meetings and share ideas for citizen engagement. We'd love to have more neighbors get involved.  The leadership team is now communicating via a Slack Workspace.  All residents are welcome to join.

Email chair@mordecaicac.org for an invitation or click here to join!

Corner Pantry Items Needed!

Please keep our neighborhood Corner Pantry in mind for donations as you are able. It is at the corner of Glascock and Watauga Streets. We continue to welcome all to take what they need and leave what they can. The Corner Pantry has been utilized a great deal since being built, so please help us maintain inventory by dropping off non-perishable foods as you are able. Thanks!
