ELKINS COMMUNITY NEWS

November 2022

Elkins Holiday Expo plans in the works

Our own signature event, Elkins Holiday Expo, will be 10am to 2pm, Dec. 3, at the Elkins Community Center. We are partnering with the Elkins Public Library and the Elkins Lions Club to offer great holiday shopping with local vendors, ornament making for the kids, and a holiday toy/clothing drive.

More information will be available on our website (elkinsar.org/holidayexpo) as it develops including how to apply for a vendor booth and what items can be donated.

Vendors
Need Christmas gifts or maybe a few fun items for yourself? We will have vendor space available inside the community center and in the parking lot. Vendor booth applications opened in late October for returning vendors and Nov. 1 for new vendors. The deadline for vendors is Nov. 21. Vendor selections will focus on holiday gifts and similar items. All vendor booth proceeds support the Elkins Community Network programs.

Toy/Clothing Drive
Elkins Lions Club will host a toy/clothing drive in support of Christmas Treasures. They will also be selling hot chocolate and cookies at the event to raise money for their organization's initiatives.

Kids Activities
The Elkins Public Library children’s programs will host a Christmas ornament fundraiser for kids. Each ornament has a suggested donation of $3, which will go to support Library programs. No signups are needed. Friends of the Elkins Public Library will be hosting their Open House at the same time as the expo in the Library. More information about that event is in this newsletter.

Thank you to this month's sponsors!

Sponsorships help make what we do possible. If you would like to sponsor a future edition, email us at info@elkinsar.org or visit elkinsar.org

We’ve revamped our Classifed Ads to focus on helping business and nonprofits connect with people needing jobs. Our job opening spots will be due at the same time each month as the display ads. They are $10 and up to 300 words. For more information, visit our media guide for sponsorships.

New Water Dates/Rates

The City of Elkins Water Department recently announced two major changes. First, they are changing the meter reading date from around the 20th of the month to around the 27th. This may cause some people to see an increase on this upcoming bill due to an extra week on the billing cycle. And, starting in December 2022, the water and sewer rates will be increasing. These rates were passed at the Water Board and the City Council. If you have any questions, please call the water office at 643-3121.

Jason Project Coat Drive

The Jason Project Coat Drive started Nov. 1 and runs through Nov. 14. Donors are asked to bundle your clean, new or gently used winter wear for men, women, and children and drop it off at one of the designated locations. The organization has several new drop-off locations this year with the two in Elkins being Elkins Public Library and Nellie B’s Bakery & Eatery during their respective regular business hours.

The distribution will be Nov. 14-20 at 7 Hills Homeless Center, Elkins Community Center, and the Fayetteville Schools’ Families in Transition Program. The JPCW’s motto is "if you need one, take one. If you have some, leave one."

Stuffed Toy Drive

The Elkins Girl Scouts are collecting new plush toys to donate to the Children’s Safety Center. Please drop off donations to the Elkins Public Library through Thanksgiving.

Goshen Pop-up Markets Coming

The Goshen Farmers Market will host two Saturday Pop-Up Holiday Markets featuring local artisans, baked goods, gourmet meat cuts, seasonal produce, and holiday gifts. The markets will be 9am to 12pm, Saturday, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10, at the Goshen Community Building.

Seminar series seeking teachers

We are very excited about a new seminar series coming in 2023! The topics will range from community topics such as menu planning to business-related topics such as how to start a business or social media tips. We are still working on the details and will share more soon! Friends members will get a discount on any seminars that have a cost.

Here is where you come in! Is there a topic you're an expert in (or really, really smart) that you're willing to teach? We want to hear from you! Also, while we already have a good list of topics, we would love your input on a potential seminar or class that you think the community would enjoy. Email info@elkinsar.org to offer your expertise or input!
