For the Canadian Armed Forces, the role of women has evolved since 1971, when the Royal Commission on the Statute of Women in Canada provided recommendations on the rights of women. Our panellists will review the topic from three different perspectives: as a service member, as an academic and as the spouse of a serving member.

A well-known military expert, and educator, Andrew Robertshaw reveals what life was like on the frontline of history. This talk will unveil his experiences as military adviser on Sam Mendes’ latest film, “1917”.

Andy Robertshaw is a worldwide known historian, Honorary lecturer at University College in London, Honorary Research Fellow at the War Studies Centre at the University of Birmingham and the Historical Director for the Center for Experimental Military Archeology. He has worked as a Curator in several UK museums, has advised on movie productions featuring the First World War and wrote several books. “A Soldier's Life”, “Somme I July 1916: Tragedy and Triumph”, “Digging the Trenches: The Archaeology of the Western Front” and “24HR Under Attack: Tommy Defends the Frontline” are only a few of his published works. Some of his cinematographic contributions include “War Horse” (directed by Steven Spielberg), "They Shall Not Grow Old" (directed by Peter Jackson), and "1917" (directed by Sam Mendes).
