Artist Applications Open for 2023 Festival

The Des Moines Arts Festival® presented by Nationwide is now accepting artist applications for the 2023 Festival. Applications are open for professional artists, the Emerging Iowa Artists program (for Iowa residents currently enrolled in an institution of higher education) and a new emerging artist program that is designed for any individual embarking on a career in the art fair industry.
 
The application process is facilitated online through ZAPPlication® (ZAPP®), a universal online application system that allows artists to submit and manage applications for participating art shows, festivals and fairs. Interested artists can visit this link and search for Des Moines Arts Festival.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 18, 2023 at 8 a.m.

Interrobang Film Festival Applications Open

The Interrobang Film Festival celebrates the art of film and is presented in concert with the Des Moines Arts Festival. The audience, whether cinema enthusiasts or curious newcomers, can experience curated screenings from films around the globe. The three-day Festival is IMDb-verified and shows an average of 40 films per year. Categories include: feature length narrative, narrative shorts, feature length documentary, documentary shorts, web/tv series pilot, music video, found footage and student shorts.

The Interrobang Film Festival is now accepting submissions on Film Freeway with an early bird deadline of Dec. 31, 2022

Art Along the Trail

The City of Clive invites artists to apply to participate in their annual Art Along the Trail public art exhibition.

Art Along the Trail is an annual outdoor exhibit displays across Clive's Greenbelt Park and Trail system from April through November.

A selection panel will choose nine original pieces (3D or 2D) for the show. Applications must be received of postmarked by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022.

First Friday
 
Weave your way through the open studios at Mainframe's fiber-focused First Friday on Nov. 4. The artists are celebrating everything SOFT such as quilting, tufting, fabric design, sock puppets and more. There will be special exhibitions from featured artists, food, drink and fun.

Wine & Clay

Head to Valley Junction on Nov. 12 to explore artists selling work in clay, wood fiber, metal, glass and more, paired with wine, food, live music and artist demonstrations at Wine & Clay. Advanced tickets and experience packages are available online until Nov. 8.

CREATIVE Community
Art Exhibits in Ankeny

Artists Josh Sorrell and Lainey Beck each have current exhibitions at the Ankeny Art Center. Sorrell's work is with Fine Art Oil Paintings while Beck works with both Fine Art Oils and Encaustic (wax). The exhibitions are available until the end of November.

Dedicated to promoting and supporting Iowa artists, the Ankeny Art Center changes its exhibits every eight weeks.

Wu Fei & Abigail Washburn

The Civic Music Association is blending cultures, genres and styles with Wu Fei and Abigail Washburn, a captivating Chinese-bluegrass folk duo. Their Des Moines debut will be on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Sheslow Auditorium. The performance is an alluring blend of cultures, genres and styles using English and Mandarin, banjo and Chinese zither, and Amerian and Chinese folksong.

Website Developers

Des Moines Arts Festival is actively seeking proposals from experienced, professional website developers for the purpose of building a website to serve as an Artist Resource Directory and an Artist Directory. Once completed, the site will be a one-stop, statewide resource hub for creatives and business to search for grants, public art projects, auditions, art shows and other opportunities that call for creatives.

Internships

Des Moines Arts Festival currently has two opportunities to join our team in 2023 as a Festival Intern. The Festival Program Intern will assist in Festival planning and production while the Graphic Design Intern will create items such as banners, signs, and merchandise. 

The Interns are required to work 12-15 hours per week during the spring semester and 40+ hours per week in the summer. Interns will receive monthly stipends. The application deadline is Nov. 6, 2022.
