The Friday edition of our weekly newsletter will be dedicated to letting YOU know what is happening in and around Western North Carolina. For FREE businesses, churches, and organizations can send us their sales, operating hours, events, worship services, yard sales, you name it. In hopes of making events easier to find and more manageable to keep track of, we have added an events calendar to the website! Instead of just looking at weekend events, we will be posting as many events in Swain, Jackson, and Macon Counties as we can. This is 100% free and a service we provide to the public. Volunteer drivers are needed at Macon County Senior Services. Mileage will be reimbursed. For more information, call (828) 349-0211.

Macon County CareNet is in need of volunteers. Positions open are in the food pantry, soup kitchen, and file room. If interested stop by for an application at 130 Bidwell St., or call (828)369-2642.

Appalachian Animal Rescue Center is looking for volunteers to help at the thrift store. Call for information about the store (828)369-3046 or the shelter (828)524-4588 if you are interested in volunteering.

Macon Medication Assistance Program located at the back of the First Baptist Church is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call (828)524-5258.

Men’s Teen Challenge Needs Good Quality Lumber for its woodworking Shop. Pick up in the Franklin area. To donate, call (828)369-1177. 

Gem & Mineral Museum, located in the Old Jail on Phillips Street in downtown Franklin is now open Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m., featuring gems and artifacts from North Carolina as well as all over the world.

Friends of the Greenway  FROG Quarters is now open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.,  at 573 E. Main in Franklin. Stop by for coffee or a soft drink and a snack, use our free internet.  You can also reserve the shelters for your events there.

Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Centers offer FREE pregnancy testing and free limited obstetrical ultrasounds plus they have an educational parenting program which is now available online to earn “points” to use to obtain free items for your family. The centers carry formula, diapers, wipes, baby items, and clothing up to size 6, as well as strollers, car seats, high chairs, pack n’ plays, etc. Donations are always welcome. CareNet on Bidwell Street will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A box of food may be picked up once a week.

Uptown Gallery on Main Street's new hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Employment assistance is offered by NC Works Career Center from 1:30-4 p.m. on the first Friday of every month at Marianna Black Library in Bryson City. 488.3030 or www.fontanalib.org.

Food Pantries :

Manna Food Bank is now at Bethel United Methodist Church. To reserve a food box, call (828) 634-1116 and leave a message with the following information: your first name and last initial; phone number to confirm pick-up time; number of people in your family; if there are allergies in the family; and any specialty items you might need, like diapers, etc. Pick up is at Bethel UMC, 81 Bethel Church Road, off Highlands Road.

Franklin Covenant Church- Host a Free Lunch And Pantry Once a Month on the fourth
Saturday of the month. It runs from 11:00 am until we either run out or there are no more people coming. It is a drive-through and to-go service. In addition to a free hot lunch, we give out dry goods and pantry supplies, like cleaning supplies, etc.

Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes, and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need. 

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Friday for drive-up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

LifeWay Community Church, located at 7333 Georgia Road, Franklin, NC will be dedicating a new little pantry this Sunday! Service will start at 10:00 a.m. and the dedication will be at 11:00. There will be a free bbq lunch after. Everyone is invited. Fun Fact: The very first Little Pantry that we launched was at the Lifeway Community Church Sylva Campus! So exciting to see a new one planted to continue serving the community!

Sunday, October 30th, at 11 AM the Spiritual Light Center will have an Open Community Talk. Come join us and get to know your fellow members a little better.
Immediately After Service is our  monthly pot luck, join us for community and some great food - all are welcome!

All Saints Episcopal Church, Franklin  Services are held Rite I, 8 a.m. without music and Rite II,  10:15 a.m. with music, every Sunday. First and third Sundays at St. Agnes Chapel, 66 Church St. and second and fourth Sundays at St. Cyprian’s Chapel, 216 Roller Mill Rd. Sunday 10:15 a.m. services can be viewed live on the website: www.allsaintsfranklin.org and past Sundays can be viewed on YouTube search “All Saints Franklin”.

Franklin First United Methodist Church Sunday In-person Worship is held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. or on Facebook at Franklin First United Methodist Church, either live or later on recorded video. The church is located at 66 Harrison Avenue in downtown Franklin; senior pastor is Rev. Grace Baptist Church Services are held on Sunday, at 11 a.m.  Frank Rodriguez is the pastor. All are welcome to attend. The church is located at 130 Setser Branch Rd. 

First Alliance Church

Celebrate Recovery at Discover Church every Monday night at 6 p.m. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, 12-step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain, or addiction of any kind. Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to find community and freedom from the issues that are controlling our life. Free childcare up to five years old for attending parents. Memorial United Methodist Church  Worship Services in person and on Facebook at 11 a.m. every Sunday.   They have communion the first Sunday of each month. Tellico Baptist Church is now having in-person Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. inside the church building with the Reverend L. E. Angel. Everyone is welcome.
