It's the Wednesday Email!Dear Church- First, on a note of care for our community, Misty DeReus’s husband Rich died last Thursday. The visitation is tonight from 6-8 at Memorial Services of Iowa (on North Ankeny Boulevard), with a memorial service there at 11 tomorrow. Details can be found here. In worship this week, it’s Reformation Sunday this week! With red paraments and German hymns, we’ll remember that Day in Wittenberg when Luther (probably) delivered his 95 theses on ways to improve the church. It’s a reminder to us that change is always necessary in the church, as we continue to listen for God’s voice in the midst of of creation’s noise. We celebrate that idea in our church by preparing to close out our survey on church vitality; the link is below. Help us to plan for a future of change together by filling it out (even if you’re not really a survey person)! This Saturday, we’ll trick-or-treat for canned goods and make some s’mores in the driveway afterwards. Just let us know if you want to join in! Grace and Peace, Pastor Nathan
PS: Fill out your congregational survey so the council can take advantage of our free consulting! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AnkenyUCC Let me know if you have any problems! |

A Welcoming Church Family |
| For Rich Misty, Nick, and Aggie, mourning Rich DeReus’s death. For Trina, Tom, Maddy, Dillon, and Nick, and their family, mourning Trina’s brother Doug Litterer. For Nancy’s in-laws Bill, Sandy, Warren, and Kellie. For the Food Bank to amend its policies depriving DMARC of its food. For families mourning their children. For people in the midst of relationship changes. For people’s lives torn apart by natural disasters, including fires in the Pacific Northwest, hurricanes in Florida, and drought across the midwest. For Europe, as they look to a winter choice between freezing cold and empowering Russian aggression. For people in relationship with one another as they search for new futures. For the at least 2,478 people who died of COVID in America last week. |

Exploring Progressive Christian Theology |
| This week’s scripture reminds us that we all have gifts of the spirit. Sometimes they are hidden, and sometimes they come to the fore. As we head into annual meeting, we are looking for people with gifts for creative worship, for education, for service and outreach, and for fellowship to serve as deacons for the next two years. Sue and Stephanie have done an able job as a duo since February, but we are believe church is better when we can host more diverse temperments and talents in our lives of discipleship! |

And Serving Beyond |
Trick or Treating for Canned Goods | Once again, we invite young and old to join us as we help our kids celebrate Halloween! At 2:30 on Saturday October 29, we’ll be meeting at the church in costumes (for those who wear costumes) to go around to a few select houses and collect cans for DMARC or the Little Free Pantry! If you want to be a stop, we ask you to collect some cans to distribute. If you want to trick-or-treat, meet at the church. And everyone is invited for treats and fun afterward! |

Songs of Gratitude | Local musicians from diverse faith communities will be hosting a concert benefitting the DMARC Food Pantry Network on November 6th at 6:30pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive. In this season of giving thanks there are many neighbors who are struggling to feed their families. Each year area food pantries see the highest number of visitors in November. A free will offering to benefit the DMARC Food Pantry Network. They are encouraging donations of non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, canned fruit in juice, or whole grain cereal. |
