Durant leur résidence chez Ada X, naakita feldman-kiss travaillera au développement d’une nouvelle installation multimédia intitulée « I was once sea floor. » En utilisant la recherche de terrain, la capture audio, la vidéo 360˚ et l’expérimentation matérielle, le projet gravite autour des notions de la roche, des sédiments et de l’histoire de l’extraction minérale. Cette exploration contribue à la recherche en cours de feldman-kiss, où iel utilise la hantise comme métaphore et méthodologie pour penser l’évolution des paysages et leurs relations avec les humains et les autres êtres vivants. L’œuvre propose des moyens de réfléchir à ce qui était là autrefois, mais qui ne l’est plus, tout en imaginant les futurs possibles dans ce lieu angoissé.

Cet atelier propose une initiation aux principes de base de l’électronique pour utilisation dans un contexte artistique. L’approche adoptée préconise une approche très empirique, favorisant la manipulation et l’expérimentation avec des composantes de base afin de développer une certaine familiarité avec les processus électroniques. Ainsi, nous travaillerons à partir de composantes ré-utilisées ou détournées de leur fonction originale, s’inspirant de l’idée de désobéissance technologique pour développer nos capacités de conception de circuits. Un projet collectif sera réalisé à la fin de l’atelier pour explorer de nouvelles avenues artistiques rendues possibles par les explorations techniques réalisées lors de la formation.

Cet atelier mettra en lumière la manière dont les artistes peuvent travailler avec la production de vidéos à 360° dans le cadre de leur pratique actuelle. En tant que créatrices/créateurs, nous découvrirons comment filmer et monter en 360 propose une nouvelle perspective audiovisuelle, ainsi que de nouveaux défis et limites techniques. Puisque la vidéo 360 est souvent créée pour la RV, les participant·e·s auront accès à des casques de RV pour visionner le travail qu’ils créent, et expérimenter des projets de RV existants qui les intéressent. Avec la participation financière du gouvernement du Québec.

I was once sea floor | naakita feldman-kiss
Residency from October 25th to December 13th

During their residency at Ada X, naakita feldman-kiss will work toward the development of a new multimedia installation titled I was once sea floor. Using place-based research, 360˚ audio and video capture and material experimentation, the project centers rock, sediment, and the history of mineral extraction. This exploration contributes to feldman-kiss’ ongoing research, where they use haunting as metaphor and methodology to reflect on changing landscapes and their relationships to humans and other beings. The work proposes ways to reflect on what was once there but is no longer, while imagining the possible futures contained in the haunted place.

DIY Electronics with Anne-F Jacques

This workshop proposes an introduction to the fundamental principles of electronics for use in artistic contexts. Participants will learn an empirical approach which involves manipulating and experimenting with basic components in order to develop a familiarity with electronic processes. We will be employing reused components, as well as components which have been reoriented from and “mis-used” according to their original functions. This approach, inspired by notions of technological disobedience, is employed in order to develop our capacities to design and conceive original circuits. The workshop will conclude with a collective project that uses the new artistic avenues made possible by the technical explorations undergone during the course. With the financial participation of the Government of Quebec.

This workshop will highlight how artists can work with 360 video production within their current practice. As creators, we will discover how filming and editing in 360 proposes a new audio-visual perspective, as well as new technical challenges and limitations. Since 360 video is often created for VR, participants will have access to VR headsets to view the work they create, and experience existing VR projects of interest.
