Here is an impressive Petit Chablis from a great site above and adjacent to grand cru Les Clos! This wine is ordered on a pre-arrival basis and is expected March/April 2023 Dominique Gruhier (pron. something like the cheese), who's parents purchased the historic 12th century Abbey in Epineuil (Pron. Ep-en-oi, or something like that). He has shown remarkable grit and determination to get this domaine to the station / reputation and quality that it is today. He has emerged as one of the pre-eminent vignerons of the Auxerrois and he has also been a frontrunner of the organic movement. "This is definitely a domaine to follow." Inside Burgundy, Jasper Morris. We offered previous vintages of Gruhier wines last year with huge success in terms of very satisfied clients. Even after tasting the pre-purchase samples we were exceptionally surprised by how great they looked after the transportation. Dominique has enviable sites in Chablis and the best site in Epenuil (the legendary Cote de Grisey that was once rated the same as les Clos Grand Cru!). They give and give in terms of value AND quality.

Bourgogne Tonnerre Blanc 2020 Offer: $42 $39 in dozen! “What beautiful wines have emerged! Fine, sexy, juicy, vivacious, saline and chalky.” - The late, great Becky Wasserman This is a dense white for one that comes from near Chablis and the south of Champagne. It’s more like a lighter but generous Puligny than a Chablis. The previous vintage came and went in a flash and it left a trail of smiling happy Burgundy clients! This has a lemon citrus vibrancy with a chalky / rocky underlay but also faint nuances of pineapple and honeysuckle; it’s such a generous and complex wine for a Bourgogne!
Petit Chablis (Single site; Sur les Clos) 2020 Offer: $37 $35 in dozen! Dominique Gruhier is not the only great vigneron to have a plot above this great Grand Cru (Vrignaud also has vines here) but it’s a great site and especially in more recent warmer vintages when the coolness helps to make the classic / minerally pulsating Chablis style. Dominique has lavished incredible effort on this wine with the obsessive vineyard work, organics, yield reduction, partial (old 400lt) barrel fermentation and elevage with minimal SO2 (but he fully understands the need for clear, clean and faultless wines!). There is no oak flavour in this wine, but the ½ maturation in large barrels gives a more complete and textural complexity to the classic salinity and preserved lemon freshness. It is hard to imagine a better Petit Chablis and this wine is better than many AC Chablis from good vintages! Cheers, Randall, Jeff & Rose!
