3) Pandemic Food Relief Effort, supported by the City of Minneapolis
 

Hot Asian meals pick up at Asian Media Access' office for Minneapolis families in need. Started in August 2022 and is on-going. Must be a Minneapolis resident to qualify.

Pick up on Wednesdays only from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. Limited to 13 families each week with 3 meal boxes per family, regardless of family size. Each family is supported for weekly pick-up for up to 4 weeks.

4) Arts of Healing

Asian Media Access and the City of Brooklyn Park have teamed up to host a pre-holiday fair - Art of Healing, along with youth entrepreneurship activities.

Program Updates

A great success for the first ever Taste of Asia
 

Asian Media Access teamed up with area AAPI community based agencies - Chinese Community Center, Chinese American Chamber of Commerce - MN, and MN Hmong Chamber of Commerce to hosted the 1st ever Taste of Asia. The event was hosted on Oct. 23 from 11am - 7pm at the St. Paul Union Depot Station.  

With more than 41 Asian food vendors, 38 cultural booths, and 60 non-stop cultural performances, the event attracted more than 10,000 festival goers. People sampled foods from various Asian cultures while enjoying cultural performances, traditional and modern, throughout the day.

Joining the City of Minneapolis' Workforce Outreach Ambassador Program 
 

Asian Media Access has joined 13 other agencies to support the City of Minneapolis' Workforce Outreach Ambassador Program.  We come together to grow a competitive workforce through programming aimed at increasing access to resources that further career services, whether skills training to gain sustainable and stable employment or career counseling for rapid reentry to the workforce. Supporting by our cohort, the City of Minneapolis Employment & Training uses a decentralized approach where services are delivered by community-based Provider Agencies at the neighborhood level. This neighborhood-based approach puts services by agencies skilled at providing culturally competent counseling that is flexible and adaptable to changing economic, cultural, and social dynamics of our community close to the job seekers and businesses that need workforce development support.

National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Drawing on Our Strengths Art Challenge


Submissions due: Tuesday, November 15, 2022 by 10:59 pm (CST)
Building off the work of the NICHD’s STrategies to enRich Inclusion and achieVe Equity (STRIVE) initiative, the STRIVE for Change: Drawing on Our Strengths Art Challenge is soliciting single, still graphic art submissions that focus on one or more community that experience health disparities.

Youth are invited to participate, particularly those from marginalized communities, including teens aged 16 to 18, and young adults, 19 to 25 years of age, to submit a graphic art submission (single still image) showcasing community health strengths: partnerships, customs, traditions, or aspects of culture that promotes positive health outcomes.

Photovoice Project

Do you live in the Frogtown or Rondo neighborhood areas? Have an interest in impacting policy and community needs through art? Apply to participate in the Photovoice Project this fall! 

Led by Springboard's Ricardo BeairdSam Buffington, and researcher Dr. Kalen Flynn (University of Chicago) the Photovoice project will build off of the narrative change work created through the Artists Respond: People, Place, and Prosperity Project and ask community members to respond and share their stories related to this work. Photovoice is a research method that emphasizes community voice and expression through photography and storytelling. During photovoice projects, participants and researchers work together to frame research questions and make meaning of pictures taken by participants in their community. 

Participants will learn the basics of camera use, discuss safety and ethical considerations and practices, and meet regularly in a facilitated group to show and discuss their images. 

Cypher Classic

BRKFST will pilot “Cypher Classic,” a free improvisation workshop for dancers and musicians at the University of Minnesota. Through guided activities, participants will gain awareness of each individual's aesthetic as they rely on their technique, composition, and improvisation to collaborate with one another. The hope is that dancers and musicians develop relationships which will blossom into creative projects together.
