Hello,

With autumn here, we're busy with several projects helping our rivers and their habitats stay healthy as we head towards winter.

As today is Halloween, we're celebrating the 'creepy' critters who live in and along the riverbank. Although not often considered 'cute', we appreciate their biodiverse beauty and awesomeness.

You can watch our volunteer vlogger, Emmeline, explain more about some invertebrates on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/ld47P3j9vec

What's really scary is that the WWF Living Planet Report 2022 indicates that monitored freshwater species have dropped by an average of 83% since 1970. This is more than any other species group.

With global habitat loss and barriers to migration routes to blame for around half the threats to these populations, we are pleased to share our latest successful fish pass partnership story with you.

Read on to discover how you can easily fundraise for our river restoration work as you shop online, how leaky dams help to slow the flow in parts of Plymouth, and much more including our three new job vacancies.

Till next time, thank you for helping to keep #BringingRiversToLife

Fantastic fin-ish for fish pass

A National Highways funded scheme to help fish navigate the River Ashburn in Devon has gone swimmingly well – and completed in time for the autumn migration season.

The construction of a new fish pass will help to support the ecosystem of the River Ashburn by assisting the migration of salmon, eels and other species through Ashburn Check Weirs within the Dartmoor National Park.

Along with the Environment Agency and Fishtek Consulting, we identified an issue whereby fish were unable to move upstream due to the four, historic stepped weirs close to the A38 eastbound entry slip road at Buckfastleigh.

Find out what we did with all the project partners to rectify the issue at wrt.org.uk/national-highways-funding-helps-fish-cross-the-a38-in-devon/

Successful climate friendly gardening

Allotment holders joined us in September and October to learn more about climate friendly gardening.

We delivered four workshops in Cornwall for attendees to discover more about soil health, no dig, biodiverse lawns, composting and green manures.

Leaky dams slow Plymouth 'leaks'

Help make winter a wonderland for water

We appreciate it may not be easy to make charitable donations with worries about cost of living affecting many people.

But, if you shop online, you can still help us earn a slice of £10,000 from online shopping platform Give as you Live, this winter.

Our partnership with them allows our supporters to raise free donations from their online shopping. It's a bit like cashback, but the money comes to us as a donation.

It's easy and free to sign-up and help our charity this way - you'll just need to complete three shops by the end of the year and they'll donate £10 to us - PLUS 100% of whatever you earn by shopping this way.

Visit Give As You Live to take part and make your online purchases provide a donation to us too.

Thank you.
