A Warm Welcome to All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore

All Saints welcomes all people, without exception, to our church. We know that Christ is present in each person here, and we celebrate the diversity of the body of Christ. If this is your first visit, please introduce yourself today, and please visit again sometime. If you’ve been away, welcome back. If you are here every week, it’s always great to see you! We worship in the Anglican tradition, and are a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, which is part of the Episcopal Church USA. We honor individuals of every age, gender, ethnic heritage, sexual orientation, and religious background. We respect the dignity of every human being.

Land Acknowledgement
For thousands of years, First Nations people walked on this land in Danvers; their relationship with the land is at the center of their lives and spirituality. All Saints is gathered on the traditional territory of the Naumkeag, and we give thanks to them, and acknowledge their stewardship of this land throughout the ages. They followed the seasons, hunted, fished, raised families, grieved for their dead, nourished their living, shared the stories of their ancestors, and considered themselves the caretakers of this place.

Newcomers Welcome
If youre new to All Saints, or just visiting, and we missed you at the door, please accept our warmest welcome. We hope you will experience the power of the Holy Spirit in our worship together. Please greet the Officiant as you leave. We hope to see you again!  A restroom is located on the left side of the front lobby.
Prelude

Welcome to Zoom and in-person worship, and an invitation to a moment of silence after the ringing of the bell.

Opening Hymn 66
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

Opening Sentence
Send out your light and your truth, that they may lead me, and bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling. Psalm 43:3

Confession of Sin
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
Officiant and People together, all kneeling as able

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry, and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through the grace of Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

Invitatory and Psalter
Please stand as you are able

Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Glory to the holy and undivided Trinity, one God:
As it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.

Venite                                                                                                       Psalm 95:1-7
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness:
Come let us adore him.

Come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
and the heights of the hills are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness:
Come let us adore him.

Psalm 119:137-144                                                                                    John Gettings

You are righteous, O Lord,
and upright are your judgments.

You have issued your decrees
with justice and in perfect faithfulness.

My indignation has consumed me,
because my enemies forget your words.

Your word has been tested to the uttermost,
and your servant holds it dear.

I am small and of little account,
yet I do not forget your commandments.

Your justice is an everlasting justice
and your law is the truth.

Trouble and distress have come upon me,
yet your commandments are my delight.

The righteousness of your decrees is everlasting;
grant me understanding, that I may live.

The First Lesson                                                                                     Ginna Coulson
Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4
The oracle that the prophet Habakkuk saw. O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you "Violence!" and you will not save? Why do you make me see wrong-doing and look at trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law becomes slack and justice never prevails. The wicked surround the righteous--therefore judgment comes forth perverted. I will stand at my watchpost, and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch to see what he will say to me, and what he will answer concerning my complaint. Then the Lord answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay. Look at the proud! Their spirit is not right in them, but the righteous live by their faith.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. Thanks be to God.

Glory to God                                                                                                  Gloria in Excelsis
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace to his people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Second Lesson                                                                               Ginna Coulson
Luke 19:1-10
A Reading from the Gospel According to Luke.
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, "He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner." Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much." Then Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost."

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. Thanks be to God.

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Let us pray.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Suffrage A
Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your salvation.

Clothe your ministers with righteousness;
Let your people sing with joy.

Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safety.

Lord, keep this nation under your care;
And guide us in the way of justice and truth.

Let your way be known upon earth;
Your saving health among all nations.

Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

Create in us clean hearts, O God;
And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.

The Collect of the Day
Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A Collect for Sundays
O God, you make us glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of your Son our Lord: Give us this day such blessing through our worship of you, that the week to come may be spent in your favor; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Mission
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Intercessions
Recognizing that our gifts are miracles that enable our ministry, serve our neighbors, and strengthen our community, we gather to offer our intentions, petitions, and thanksgivings to God.

I ask your prayers for the Church, the inspiration and inheritance of our gifts of wealth, works, and wisdom. Pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Michael, our Presiding Bishop, Gayle and Alan our Bishops, Marya, Jim and all other ministers in the Church. In our Diocesan cycle of prayer, we pray for the Parishes of the South Shore Deanery: Trinity Church, Rockland; St. Luke’s Church, Scituate; Church of the Holy Nativity, South Weymouth; All Saints’ Church, Whitman and the Diocesan Convention. In our Anglican cycle of prayer, we pray for Iglesia Anglicana de Chile. Amen.

I ask your prayers for the world, your greatest miracle. May we who inherit this earth be wise stewards of Creation and kind caretakers of all your creatures. I ask your prayers for those who lead our nations, and for the representatives of our local government. May they use the plentiful resources they steward to care for the people of the world.

I ask your prayers for our neighbors and all who need or request our prayers. For those who are marginalized and oppressed; those who are sick, suffering, lonely or isolated,  especially: Joe Maher, Paula and Sam Noyes, Sean Grogan, Bruce and Maureen Murden, Mary Ellen Murphy, Andrew B., Cathy Doyle, Dean Carter, Mary Carney, Mark and Barbara Winkler, Rebecca Hill Larsen, Don McAllister, Judy Donovan, Priscilla Quealy, Ina Jean Wagner, Phyllis, Max Gettings, Piper, Laura and Tess, Paul, Brian O’Donovan, Ann Gentry, Robin, Brayden, Jan Eschanauzier, Katie, Debbie and Dick Bezuka. Are there others?

I ask your prayers for those who have died. May they forever gather at your table of plenty, sharing their gifts with love and joy. We remember especially, those whose gifts, bequests, and intentions provide inspiration and abundance beyond their lifetimes. Are there others?

We give you thanks for the uncountable miracles and blessings in our lives. We especially pray for those celebrating birthdays this week, including Barbara French. Are there blessings you would like to offer?

We pray for all who come to the “halls” of All Saints seeking healing from addiction. Look with compassion on all who have lost their health and freedom. Restore the assurance of your unending love and unfailing mercy; remove the fears that disable; strengthen the work of recovery; and to those who care for those suffering from addiction, give patient understanding and persevering love.

May we, too, reach within ourselves to share our gifts with the world so that our love overflows in a need-filled world. These and all things we ask in the name of Your Son. Amen.

The Passing of the Peace
Christ is here right now making peace among us.
The peace of the Lord be always with you!
And also with you.

Please be seated

The General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up ourselves to your service,
and by walking before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout all ages.  Amen.

Please be seated

Final Blessing
A Prayer of St. Chrysostom

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.
