President’s Letter

Dear CNYDCTA Members and Supporters,

I am always humbled by the amount of volunteers that step up to fulfill much needed roles on our board, at our events and in our community. Thank you to everyone who rode, audited, donated and volunteered at our 2022 events. We couldn’t have done it without you. As our summer season comes to a close, I look forward to seeing everyone at our Year End Awards Banquet.

We are all excited to offer the USDF L Program in 2023. Please see the website to sign up for this incredible educational opportunity offered in our area. This will be an invaluable program for everyone to attend, whether participating or auditing. As a club, we have a large number of members taking part in our schooling shows. The L program is a great way for competitors to learn what judges are looking for and how to improve their scores. It covers the dressage training scale in depth, as well as equine biomechanics and how to identify correct training. I think everyone who competes should take advantage of this opportunity! Demo riders are also needed, applications are on our website.

Our planning meeting is coming up in November, so if anyone has any ideas for what they’d like to see in 2023, please contact me to let me know.

I am excited to announce that Cody Moore will be taking on our JR/YR Coordinator position, as well as our ribbons/awards for each show. Thank you, Cody! Also, Mackenzie Waro will be taking over as insurance coordinator for events.

We are still looking for a social media coordinator. We are in need of some more members at large. In addition to these, I would like to find a JR/YR representative. Please watch your emails for details on how to apply for this youth position!

Thank you,
Corrinne

Please note that CNYD&CTA's 2022 Annual Year End Awards event date has changed from Saturday, Nov. 19 to Sunday, Nov. 20. It will run from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm with a brunch meal and speaker. Please use this link to register.
Our keynote speaker at the Year End Awards Luncheon is Michael Canfield of Lucky Star Horsemanship. He will present "Enriching Performance with the Four ‘C’s of Horsemanship.”
Michael’s Canfield began his life-long study into the Art of Horsemanship in 1992 and he has been continually learning and improving his programs to help others with their horses ever since. In 2011 he founded a horsemanship study group which focused on the principles found in classical and natural horsemanship. This study group gained national recognition and went on to help 20+ more groups.

Early on, Michael recognized that many horses, through no fault of their own, were in need of a “second chance” due to neglect, abandonment or abuse. Accordingly, he set about to craft and implement a training program to help these horses find their footing again and become valued equine partners, who could go on to do wonderful things with their human partners. This led to the creation of Lucky Star Horsemanship and Michael’s “Program of Cooperative Horsemanship.”

After Michael encountered many horse owners who just needed help to improve their partnership with their horses in order to achieve their goals, he tapped into his long-standing experience to develop cost effective workshops, lessons and unique “learning opportunities” that help his clients become stronger, more positive leaders in partnership with their horses. Understanding that each human/horse partnership is unique, Michael’s approach is one of patience, empathy, fairness and clear communication that enhance confidence, control and a strong foundation.

Through Michael’s ongoing study of the approaches and philosophies of other great horsemen and horsewomen like Ray Hunt, Tom Dorrance, Chris Cox, Julie Goodnight and Clint Anderson, he is constantly refining his own horsemanship and methods to improve himself, his horse and his abilities to help others. Michael’s belief is that “horsemanship is a journey, not a race” and that journey is never really finished.

Looking for a JR/YR representative

It is decided that our club desires a JR/YR representative. Such a position would be beneficial to a youth rider looking to gain skills within a leadership role. This experience is ideal for college applications, job resumes and grants or scholarships.

Our JR/YR representative is asked to be an active participant in the role : attending meetings, providing input and feedback, generating new ideas, interviewing their peers, volunteering at events, and possibly riding or volunteering at the Lendon Grey Youth Festival.  This person would work alongside our JR/YR coordinator, Cody Moore, and the President to implement new ideas that engage our youth members. The possibilities for this role are endless.

We are asking that this position is applied for. Please provide an 1-2 page essay that includes: a brief biography with riding history included, future individual goals, and a vision of how you plan to contribute to the club. The board will review applications and vote on which candidate will be the best fit for this role. Please have applications to president@cnydcta.org by December 1. This position will begin in January of 2023.

To our non-youth members, please share this opportunity with young people from your riding circles as to get the word out to as many young people as possible. Let’s find a JR/YR representative for 2023!
