Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry. Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants. My story: Beau
As a small child, I never felt that I had to conform to gender stereotypes. No one ever had anything to say about what I chose to wear or how I wanted to spend my time, they just let me be myself. Read Beau's full story (click link).
Event recap
The 58th 2022 Illinois Conference (UCC) Annual Celebration has ended. There were 153 registered and 123 voting delegates who participated in the four-day's online event. There are ten workshops, one keynote, opening and closing worship, and two sections of the business meeting. The opening worship was led by youth from the Conference. And the new president of Chicago Theological Seminary, Dr. Brad Braxton, gave the message at the closing worship. The keynote was addressed by Rev. Cameron Trimble, CFO of Convergence, regarding the post-pandemic church ministries.
The financial committee submitted the financial report and provided detailed information and explanations regarding the changes. Although there is still no external audio for 2021 this time (there was no external audit for 2022 either), the delegates felt the positive efforts from the committee and approved the budget and report. New Conference positions were confirmed too. The newly elected Conference President is Rev. Jon Prain from Federated Church, The Western Association (Avon, Illinois). Delegates to the 2023 - 25 General Synod were elected too. A new task force was approved for exploring the reconstruction of the Conference leadership, Constitution, and Bylaw, in response to the changing environment.
