News from Harvard Book Store

Boston Book Festival

Today brings the return of the in-person Boston Book Festival in Copley Square! Harvard Book Store will be on-site, along with independent bookstores from across Greater Boston, along with 200 authors and moderators covering all genres—including nonfiction, literary fiction, mystery, romance, comics, sci-fi/fantasy, poetry, YA, middle grade, chapter books, and picture books. Come discover new writers, meet a favorite author, and say hello to the Harvard Book Store staff selling books outside of the Children's Room at the Boston Public Library. Check out the festival schedule here.

AGNI at 50

AGNI, BU’s biannual literary magazine, celebrates its 50th birthday this year. Join Boston's literati for a celebration of this “beacon of international literary culture” (PEN) on Friday, November 4, either online or in-person at WBUR's CitySpace (your choice!). Three-time U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky will emcee an evening of readings and music, with performances by Jo Ann Beard, Caren Beilin, Victoria Chang, Teju Cole, Chanda Feldman, Pinsky himself, and the Boston-based, cross-cultural music project Meridian 71, led by Giuseppe Paradiso. In Case You Missed It

Publisher Focus

This week we've featured new releases from the University of North Carolina Press and other distinguished university presses in our Publisher Focus window. Indian Cities shows how, from colonial times to the present day, Indigenous people have shaped and been shaped by urban spaces. We the Dead: Preserving Data at the End of the World guides readers through the ever-expanding data complex through a series of moments when Americans thought they were living just before the end of the world. Accidental Kindness: A Doctor’s Notes on Empathy artfully examines the often conflicting goals of patients and their doctors. Feeding Washington’s Army highlights the missteps and triumphs of both General George Washington and his officers as well as ordinary soldiers, sailors, and militiamen as they endured and survived the Valley Forge Winter of 1778. Eating While Black: Food Shaming and Race in America shows how mass media, nutrition science, economics, and public policy drive entrenched opinions among both Black and non-Black Americans about what is healthy and right to eat.
