Report - October 2022
Is digitalisation a way into the future or -another- barrier to claiming asylum?
Dear everyone,
From October 2021 to September 2022, together with five students from Sciences Po Paris, we have investigated the digitalisation of the asylum procedure in Greece. We’ve conducted interviews with actors from 13 organisations working with asylum seekers in Greece and asked them: is digitalisation a way into the future or -another- barrier to claiming asylum?
Our report demonstrates how the alleged modernisation of the Greek asylum system is actually making matters worse, primarily for asylum seekers, but also for the organisations dedicated to supporting them. To find out about our results, visit our website and read the full report!
We are grateful for all organization who contributed to the research as well as the work of Maud Bachelet, Meredith McCain, Xenia Chan, Lara Kühnle and, Christina Sullivan.
The aim of the report is to increase public understanding of the challenges created by the digitalisation of asylum procedures in Northern Greece and to advocate for systemic change from the competent authorities, policy makers and political leadership at the national as well as the EU level. As such, we would be extremely grateful if you could share the report widely amongst your colleagues, professional circles and beyond to denounce the harmful effects of digitalization on access to asylum and the lives of displaced persons.
