Academic Consideration Requests

Academic Consideration (e.g., extended assignment deadlines, make-up assessments) may be requested on the basis of Extenuating Circumstances (such as health or compassion). Note there is a special COVID-19 category for Academic Consideration Requests. Students who miss class or an assessment due to cold or flu-like symptoms or due to self-isolation, may select COVID-19 as the reason, and are not required to provide supporting documentation one time per semester without restrictions, including for final exams and assessments.

Students may also request academic consideration for extenuating circumstances one time per term without supporting documentation, but this cannot be used for final exams or final assessments. All other times documentation is required.

Religious, Aboriginal and Spiritual Observances

If a student is requesting accommodation due to a religious, Aboriginal and/or spiritual observance, they must submit their request via the online Academic Consideration Request (ACR) system within the first two weeks of the class or, for a final examination, within two weeks of the posting of the examination schedule.

See more about Religious and Cultural Observances and Accommodation of Student, Religious, Aboriginal and Spiritual Observance Policy 150.

More Information

See exam procedures and other important information on the student exam website, or exam information for professors and and invigilators. For more information see the Final Exam Policy or email exams@ryerson.ca.

Academic Accommodation Support Deadlines

The deadline to register with AAS for the Fall 2022 semester is today, Friday November 4, 2022. If students reach out after the registration deadline, AAS will review and consider the circumstances and, in exceptional circumstances, establish interim accommodation plans. All students who reach out after the deadline are invited to complete the intake process for the Winter 2023 semester beginning in January.

If a student reaches out seeking to register after the deadline and is struggling in their courses due to disability, medical, personal or other impacts, AAS will refer appropriately. For academic support and consideration options (such as ACRs, INCs, and course drops), students will be encouraged to reach out to their Academic Advisor or Program Coordinator to guide them through these processes. Students should be referred to AAS to determine and implement accommodations for future semesters.
