It was Dress-Up Day at nursery yesterday and happily Aurora chose to be a baby witch. It was the cutest thing seeing her hang her broomstick and pointy hat on her peg before going in for her second breakfast - I actually think she may be part Hobbit.
What plans are in place for your Samhain celebrations? We light candles and lay an extra place at dinner so our dear and departed can join us. We call them by name and bid them welcome. As we sit reminiscing and explain to Aurora how these intangible names fit into our rich lives and the roles they played, we can feel them nearby. The night doesn't seem so dark as the candles grow brighter with their presence. Do you celebrate the festival and if so, how?

Moina Mathers: Mistress of Magic

Moina Mathers was unusual in many ways – not least having a successful marriage to a ceremonial magician, and they are rarely easy to live with! Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers was one of the three founders of The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and Moina was initiated into it, ran it, constructed the rituals and maintained a life as an artist too.
A thoroughly European childhood and a courageous nature made Moina Mathers' bohemian lifestyle one that her friends envied. Her two main companions were the remarkable Annie Horniman and Florence Farr who both also feature in this talk. One was rich and one was famous, and both had interesting friends and were mentioned in biographies.
Moina Mathers has been slightly overlooked for the last several years and Geraldine is set to redress the balance with this, the most recent of her biographical talks on Magical Women.
